Stanley Cup Final:

medium.png (32) vs medium.png (25)

At least two games left, maybe even three.. Plenty of time for both teams to take control of the series. If it gets to a point where one team mathematically wins, I'll let the draft start. But, it's looking like it will stay tight until the finish

I don't get this one. Wouldn't mind knowing what the GMs intentions were. Not that it's crazy lopsided, just seems odd to give a talent of that calibre up for strictly futures.

On the one hand, my first reaction was similar.

But on the other, DD's pool points don't really match his real-life value. For instance, Roman Josi, Brent Burns, Dennis Wideman, Mark Streit, Dustin Byfuglien, and Keith Yandle all scored more points, and for significantly less cap hit.

END OF THE YEAR: PRE-DRAFT STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

After a very busy 4 months, it looks as though the Carolina Hurricanes have finished all the major moves that they originally set out to do. When first coming aboard as an AGM, the two major areas that were addressed at the time were to solve the goaltending issue and shore up our defensive prospects. While there still may be a few tweaks made to the lineup, below is what next seasons Carolina Hurricanes lineup will look like:

FORWARDS

Matt Moulson ($4.3M) - Tyler Seguin ($5.75M) - Blake Wheeler ($5.6M)

Nikolaj Ehlers ($1.625M) - Travis Zajac ($5.75M) - Kevin Hayes ($925k)

Viktor Tikhonov ($2.95M) - Markus Granlund ($925k) - Artemi Panarin ($3.65M)

Dwight King ($1.8M) - Jordan Weal ($1.05M) - Justin Fontaine $2.15M)

Last Two Spots: Chris Thorburn($1M)/Jason Akeson ($950k)/Sonny Milano ($925k)/Alan Quine ($850k)/TBD

DEFENSE

Marc Staal ($5.4M) Anton Stralman ($2M)

Niklas Grossmann ($3.5M) Julius Honka (1.15M)

Chris Phillips ($2.65M) Josh Gorges ($3.9M)

Last Spot: Madison Bowey ($1.1M)/Brett Kulak ($800k)/Nick Jensen ($600k)

GOALIES

Tuukka Rask ($7M)

Anton Khudobin ($800k)

Since joining the team in February, the following players (cant keep track of picks in and out) have been brought in and shipped out to create a new and exciting identity for the Hurricanes:

IN: Dwight King, Artemi Panarin, Viktor Tikhonov, Brett Kulak, Alan Quine, Madison Bowey, Julius Honka, Blake Wheeler, Kevin Hayes, Markus Granlund, Tuukka Rask, Nikolaj Ehlers, Nick Jensen, Chris Phillips, Chris Thorburn, and Marc Staal.

OUT: Cam Fowler, Nick Bjugstad, Jay Bouwmeester,Stephen Weiss, Matt Nieto, Tomas Jurco, Curtis Glencross, Erik Haula, Martin Jones, Hunter Shinkaruk, Justin Abdelkader, Jordan Subban, Cody Ceci, Sven Baertschi.

The Carolina Hurricanes went from having just over $17M in cap space at the deadline to going right up near the cap up until recently, with 5 roster spots still to fill out. However, thanks to some terrific cooperation and patience from other GMs, the Canes have managed to make the necessary changes to not only remain cap compliant, but also remain competitive for next season. With 21 roster spots spoken for (assuming Ehlers and Honka make the club), it appears as though the Hurricanes have $7.125M available to fill out their remaining two roster spots, though this does not mean all will be used.

While I feel as though there is still some improvements to be made to the lineup, I do believe a huge amount of work has already been done to improve the team leading into next season. From what was 6th worst when I joined, to 8th worst by seasons end (thanks in large part to Blake Wheeler and Kevin Hayes), I fully expect with a full seasons worth of Wheeler, Hayes and Tuukka Rask in the lineup will go a long way to the Canes making the playoffs.

Also, and something that has been very important to me, is ensuring that any players that I have brought in since coming aboard have not been traded away. I would like to thank all the players that have been a part of this organization since the previous regime and moved on to a new organization, in particular Cam Fowler and Jay Bouwmeester (who was a real sport waiving his NMC to join the newly run Islanders organization). These two are real professionals who will be mainstays on their new teams. And while moving Cam Fowler was particularly difficult, building the team for the future is vital for the Hurricanes going forward.

There is still a lot of work that needs to be done, though. Attention will now be turned to the upcoming draft, as it is going to play a huge role for the future of the Hurricanes. As of right now, Carolina has 9 picks in the upcoming draft, with the 17th, 46th, 47th, 54th, 67th, 69th, 86th, 89th/90th (depending on who wins the Cup), and the 128th overall picks. My goal all along has been to make immediate changes to the lineup, icing young players who will stay with the organization for the long haul. And while Im very comfortable with the guys currently on the lineup, these draft picks are going to be future players representing the fine city of Carolina. Just like the trades made to improve the organization, the draft will be approached with just as much care and attention to detail in order to build the team the right way.

When I joined the team back in February, it was promised to our fan base that changes would be made to improve the team immediately and for the future. Bringing in Tuukka Rask, Blake Wheeler, Kevin Hayes, Dwight King, Nikolaj Ehlers, Artemi Panarin, Julius Honka, Madison Bowey, Markus Granlund, and Chris Thorburn are all guys I feel will have an immediate impact to our teams competitiveness. I look forward to seeing just how much they will contribute.

SPECIAL NOTE does need to be made to give credit where credit is due. If not for SwedeHockey, our team never would have brought in Blake Wheeler and Marc Staal. And if not for D-Money, Im sure the Tuukka Rask deal, as well as bringing in Dwight King, Nikolaj Ehlers, Julius Honka, and Madison Bowey never would have come to fruition. While I will take appropriate credit for some of the moves made to the franchise, I must acknowledge the efforts made from the previous regime (Swede) and my highly skilled AGM (D-Money) who both made direct changes to the lineup and helping plan for the future of the franchise.

I would also like to thank all the other GMs in the league who I have had direct dealings with in trades, and even those with trades that never came to fruition. Looking around CDC, I have noticed that there are a few other fantasy leagues, some quite a few years longer than CDCFL. Ensuring that this is a fun, competitive league where we can all come and playfully rib, while respecting each other as well, is something I enjoy. A big part of making sure our league continues to improve is having quality GMs/AGMS in place who actively contribute, which I believe we are starting to have, but even more importantly

is that we have a terrific commissioner. Nail, I dont want to speak for anyone here, but I think its safe to say that we all appreciate the hard work and effort you put in to make sure the league is fair and fun for everyone. Juggling my lineup, cap, and future of the team is time consuming as it is. You have a Stanley Cup Final team that youve constructed, all while successfully running this league. GREAT WORK!

As a final note to all inquiring GMs looking to trade, I am always listening to offers and have salary cap space available, should teams be looking to unload cap or simply looking for a good hockey trade. At this point, Im specifically looking for another defenseman. I will also note that the following pending UFAs rights are available:
  • Cody McLeod (246 pool points in 82 GP last season)
  • Benoit Pouliot (182 pool points in 58 GP last season)
  • James Sheppard (109 pool points in 71 GP last season)
  • Patrick Kaleta (40 pool points in 42 GP last season)

We have a trade to announce...

To CGY: Brian Campbell (42% retained by Chicago for 2015 season)

To CHI: Brian Ferlin

The Flames would like to thank GM Bombastik der Teutone for the smooth negotiations and professionalism throughout our discussions.

We have a trade to announce...

To NSH: Drew Doughty

To CGY: Jiri Sekac (26% retained by Nashville for 2015 season), FLA 2016 1st Round Pick, CAR 2016 2nd Round Pick, PIT 2016 2nd Round Pick, EDM 2016 3rd Round Pick

A tough call to let one of the premier defenders in the League go, however tough decisions come with the territory. A pleasure dealing with GM lethunder and glad we could come to agreement that both side are comfortable with.

I don't get this one. Wouldn't mind knowing what the GMs intentions were. Not that it's crazy lopsided, just seems odd to give a talent of that calibre up for strictly futures.

The mindset was to create cap space while maintaining production from the back end. Moving Doughty's 7m cap hit for Campbell's 4.75m cap hit allows for better flexibility and doesn't overall drop scoring from our defense going into next season.

I also view Campbell and the Panthers as an up and coming team that will push for a Playoff spot, in giving up Doughty he may very well be on the Playoff bubble again next season.

Overall Mike Green and Andrei Markov will provide just as much if not more offense next season as well. On top of that defenseman Brendan Smith I view as someone who will increase his production dramatically, he was under utilized IMO by Babcock in Detroit and he has a more offensive game to tap into, looking forward to this.

Add in Voynov's return, youngsters in Morrow, Ouellet, and Forbort, the stage has been set to bring up some youth on the back end.

I look at it as:

7.7M

Drew Doughty

Brian Ferlin

for

7.525M

Brian Campbell

Jiri Sekac

2016 FLA 1ST

2016 CAR 2ND

2016 PIT 2ND

2016 EDM 3RD

* I dropped a little cap while adding a good young sniper of a forward in Sekac, replaced Doughty in an offensively capable dman in a contract year on an up and coming team in Campbell while also adding 4 draft picks in the top 90 in 2016, one of which I flipped to land Joe Morrow who has been eluding me for some time.

I am very happy with the deals that came together and appreciate my fellow GM's time in doing so.

Here it is folks, the nominees for the GM of the Year. I'd like to let you guys know of a few things first, so here they are:

1) Picking from the nominees, all GM's are to send myself a PM titled "GM of the Year Voting" with their top 3 choices listed in order from 1 to 3.

2) The number 1 choice for each GM gets 5 points, number 2 choice gets 3 points, and number 3 choice gets 1 point. The GM with the most points at the end of all the voting wins.

3) Please don't vote for yourself (looking at you JE)

4) I will not read any of the PM's until the date where I announce the winner, therefore nobody will be notified of who may be in the lead until the final tabulations (unless you guys tell each other who you voted lol)

5) There are lots of great GM's in this league, but I had to narrow this great group to only 9 nominees. If you weren't nominated, please don't take any offence as I tried my best to pick the top 9 nominees

6) I may not have posted all of the great moves each nominee has made, so if you remember another significant move that the specific GM made, please keep that in mind when voting. Some of the trades I posted were larger trades, but I kind of shortened down into the larger parts of the deal (which is why the trades may seem smaller than they actually were)

Arizona needs to dump some cap. Mason Raymond could be had for a prospect. He is due for a good year after his injury last year .

Nail, this roster should be cap compliant. If not i will make changes. If i use a buyout or make a trade I will submit a new roster at that time. After seeing how much cap space i have (or don't have) i will call up/send down a player(s). Stoked for the season.

The Arizona Coyotes

Nazem Kadri - Henrik Zetterberg - Bobby Ryan

Chris Higgins - Mike Fisher - Jannik Hansen

Mason Raymond - Cody Hodgson - Max Domi

Antoine Roussel - Chris Wagner - Cody McCormick

Dennis Seidenberg - Erik Johnson

Christian Ehrhoff - Luke Schenn

Nate Prosser - Eric Gryba

Mike Smith

Joni Ortio

RUMORS! RUMORS EVERYWHERE!

Even after GM Monty's "State Of The Union Address", there are several reports out of Carolina that he has made another trade. While we are uncertain at this point about who or what was involved, I'm sure it won't satisfy GM Monty's massively inflated ego.

Pittsburgh would be looking to make another move or two prior to the draft.

Although there are a few players I am reluctant to discuss a trade for, everyone is available.

A few players who are available are Frans Nielsen, Morgan Rielly, Reto Berra, PA Parenteau, Mark Visentin & Patrik Berglund.
