D-Money
With the recent acquisitions of Trevor Daley and Fedor Tyutin, the L.A. Kings are considering moving a depth defenseman. The following two players are on the block: Matt Donovan 1.1 mil cap hit, 2 years remaining Matt was a spare D-man for Winnipeg last year, but did not play many games (did dress for 2 playoff games though). As such, he's headed for group IV UFA. However, he had a decent NHL season in 2013-14 (52 GP, 16 Pts, 26 PIM). And he absolutely lit up the AHL in the past (180 GP, 118 Pts, 210 PIMs). He's likely to sign with a team needing an offensive defenseman. Andre Benoit 2.0 mil cap hit, 1 year remaining Benoit's situation is similar, in that he did not have a very good season last year (76 pool points), but not many did in Buffalo. He is also a UFA now, but is only one year removed from a strong 28-point season with the Avalanche. He's also likely to sign with a team needing offense from their blueline. We'd like to move at least one of these players, and are not expecting much of a return for either. We realize that we are selling low here, and that one or both of these players could become quite valuable if things work out for them wherever they sign next. They could possibly see 2nd unit PP time on certain teams. We just don't have room for both of them. Donovan has been dealt (trade to be announced). Happy with D for now. Probably not moving any more unless it's for an upgrade. Still listening to offers on Michael Frolik & Jeff Skinner.
TheRussianRocket.
Anyone who has a bonified starting goalie on a playoff team under age 32, NJD will pay the price for em. Willing to bundle up both Elliott and Hutchinson if need be. Also open to trading Elliott + bluechip prospect which have been off the table. Late round picks in return.
Monty
Alright, so while the "2nd Annual CDC Fantasy League Entry Draft 2015 Edition" is the forum to make selections, shown here: http://forum.canucks.com/topic/369858-2nd-annual-cdc-fantasy-league-entry-draft-2015-edition/ Time to make comments on fellow draftees selections. Both positive and (constructive) negative. You know, because I'm a prick. But just so you all know, I FULLY expect you guys to lay into me when I make all 10 of my selections; because clearly all 10 of my selections are going to be stars. First: Connor McDavid Obviously a great selection by RussianRocket. Great job on this buddy. While I'm still kicking myself for not making that trade with you at the deadline, you are a really good competitor. And your playoff team is going to be that much more scary next season with the best prospect to come into the NHL since Crosby. Obvious pick, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't a great one. Well done. Second: Jake Eichel theminister and greensman make a terrific second pick. Honestly, while Edmonton is probably not a team that will make the playoffs next year, I know with my trade conversations with them that this team is headed in the right direction with these guys running the ship. They really know what they're doing. And with the 5th overall pick in the draft coming up, they are really going to make some serious noise in this league in about 2-3 years time. Third: Mitch Marner After the second pick, this is where picks get far less obvious. While Marner is world class prospect, I'm a little surprised that Squeak didn't draft a defenseman. Again, this is all constructive and we're all entitle to our own (wrong) opinions. Nobody knows his team better than the guy running it. Perhaps because I had Marner being drafted at 5th or 6th overall, surprised you didn't trade down a few spots, get something else in return and draft Marner. That said, when you want your player you're sold on, you don't want to risk losing him playing that game. Great selection regardless.

Monty
Great commentary, Monty. You better do the whole first round! I can do that. In fact, I'll be the TSN equivalent and dress it up a little with a better looking presentation. Make it look a little more sparkly. I'll try and keep it going beyond the first round as well. It's going to be a little more difficult to make commentary on picks, especially in the third round and beyond. At the very least, I'll do it throughout the first 2 rounds. In fact, to make it a little more fun, I'll try and do this for most trades as well. While we will all comment on trades like we usually do, when I comment as "The Media", I'll take as much of an unbiased approach as I possibly can. If people are alright with that, of course. Again, before I do this for draft picks and trades, I want everyone to know that this will be done respectfully, with as much homework on picks/trades as I can, and done constructively. I don't want anyone to think that my comments, when done from the media's standpoint, will be done by picking on anyone (that's never my intention) or making it seem like the GM who's made a pick/trade that "The Media" questions is done in a way where "The Media" knows what is best for the franchise. More than anything, it will serve as a "Risk/Reward" type of report. If at any point people find that I am being biased or unfair with my commentary, please let me know privately and I will adjust my critiques accordingly. Thoughts? Monty
As a side note, I really hope we can finish our draft (all 5 rounds) before the actual NHL draft. I know that it will be very, very, very difficult for that to happen, but I would really prefer that nobody piggyback off of actual NHL selections for our draft. Makes it a lot more fun. This is wishful thinking, I know.

You say that now, but when it is time for your 5th rounder, and Chicago spends a 3rd on some guy no one's ever heard of from some backwoods town in Northern Sweden, I'm sure even you will be swayed. Monty
With the Fourth overall selection in the 2015 draft, the Detroit Red Wings decided to select Noah Hanifin. This was a very, very great pick for GM Go Faulk Yourself and the Red Wings organization. Hanifin is one of the best defensemen in the draft, drawing comparisons to one Niklas Lidstrom. The Red Wings an organization in serious need of attention to their roster. They have $20M in cap space going into free agency and with a very bare prospect pool. While they need both offense and defense, they at least had Morgan Klimchuk in the waiting. They already need help filling out their roster on defense, currently had nobody in the prospect pool who is remotely close to challenging for one of those position. Hanifin is just that guy. This is a terrific selection by the Wings and will complement Victor Hedman well as they rebuild.

Monty
With the Fifth overall selection in the 2015 NHL Draft, the Edmonton Oilers select defenseman Ivan Provorov. After drafting Jack Eichel with the second overall pick, this was not a pick that surprised many. theminister and greensman have been absolutely on fire since coming on board, with their first big splash when they brought in defenseman P.K. Subban. After selecting the offensive dynamo with their second pick, drafting a defenseman was essential for this franchise going forward. Ivan Provorov, for those of you who don't know, was an absolute beast for the Brandon Wheat Kings last season. While some may question whether the Oilers selecting a Russian player is a smart move, take note that Provorov's character is unquestionable. He came overseas to play in North America at the age of 16 in the USA, only to join the Wheat Kings at 17. He is already used to the Manitoba winter's, so he knows what he's in for going to Edmonton. Not only that, but he can carry the puck into the other end with skill and ease. Provorov, who was projected to go 9th overall 4 months ago, shot up the charts recently after a great playoff run and interview process with executives throughout the league. GMs, take note, the Edmonton Oilers are a team on the rise. While they still have some kinks to iron out, specifically with forward Alexander Semin, who they are hoping will have a bounce back year, they will be a force sooner rather than later. And with goaltender Connor Hellebuyck coming up, they are going to be an exciting team to watch.
