Restricted free-agent defenseman Eric Gelinas has signed a new contract, the team announced Monday. Details of the contract were not released, but NorthJersey.com reported Gelinas signed for one year at $900,000.

"Just happy to have everybody here, everybody ready," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "It's the first step towards getting our team together. We've got all our players here and now training camp begins."

Gelinas, 23, had seven goals and 29 points in 60 games last season while averaging 16:55 of ice time per game. He was fourth among all rookie defenders in goals and tied for third in points, despite playing fewer games than anyone on the list above him.

The signing comes on the same day Devils rookies reported for their training camp physicals.

The Devils also will have another defenseman in training camp when veterans report, as Lamoriello told NorthJersey.com that veteran Mike Komisarek will attend camp on a professional tryout contract.

Komisarek, 32, had four points, all assists, and a minus-4 rating in 32 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season.

In 11 NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs and Hurricanes, Komisarek has 14 goals and 81 points in 551 games. He also played in the 2009 NHL All-Star Game.

Komisarek is one of five players attending Devils camp on tryout deals, along with forwards Scott Gomez, Ruslan Fedotenko and Jordin Tootoo, and defenseman Tomas Kaberle.

Yeah definitely underpaid for that kind of production. 29 points in 60 is pretty decent.

Also, that retirement home list in their tryout and actual rosters just keeps growing. Komisarek now, after Gomez, Kaberle and Fedotenko? Add Jagr, Elias, Salvador, Zidlicky, Zubrus, Ryder... how will they get by after these vets all retire, especially when they barely have any scoring prospects?

expected something like jake gardiner´s contract

It's a bridge deal.

NJ can't afford to over commit right now. Money talks in that franchise which is why they are struggling to find cheap bodies.

He'll get a better deal next year if he proves he can be consistent. The Devils will have serious money coming off of the books next year when they finally decide to retool their forward group, which is seriously lacking in prospects.
