theminister
It's going to be fun to watch us shock some people this year. All of the stories for the first half year will be about when to expect the drop off and the latter half will be about how we can't do it in the playoffs. The spin is going to be massive. Lots of back peddling. Of course, they'll be pumping up their new GM in T.O. From Christmas on.
ManUtd
I think 9th in the NHL is a reasonable prediction though. Boston LA Chicago St Louis Colorado Vancouver. Nope. Suck it TSN. I'm going with 6th. Now I'm sure you're joking.
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Most people don't make projections based on small sample sizes. Bernier and Reimer's track records are not big enough to assume that they'll continue that trend. Miller has been a solid goalie throughout his career, won a Vezina, and backstopped his team to a silver medal. To say that either one is a better goalie at this point, is making quite a few assumptions. Well in that business that is their job even with little sample size, they will make assumptions and projections. Kind of the same thing we do here where majority of the people believe Horvat will be the next Bergeron or Shinkaruk as the next Kane.

Kind of the same thing we do here where majority of the people believe Horvat will be the next Bergeron or Shinkaruk as the next Kane. Well then in that way of analysis, I guess Bonino and Fisher are as good as Henrik Sedin because they had almost the same amount of points as him last season. It's ridiculous to compare players based on one season and ignore their entire body of work. I would expect a little better analysis and comparison from so called experts, rather than using the comparison method adopted by CDC.
oldnews
I think that San Jose, Dallas, Minnesota, Colorado, Vancouver, and possibly Nashville will all be battling for playoff spots while it looks like Chicago, LA, St. Louis, Anaheim are the no-brainers to make it. Games against the bolded are the ones that I am most excited to watch this season! Two of these teams won't be making the cut. Nashville is looking like the most likely amongst these listed teams to miss, while one of Vancouver, Minnesota, and Dallas is more likely than the others to be the second to miss. However, anything is possible. I say Vancouver finishes 8th. Minnesota I think will come 9th. I believe that it will come down to the final game of the season to determine which team between the two makes it. I'm not as sold on the Ducks as most people, and am thinking Anaheim is more of a question mark than they were last year. They lost a lot of talent off that roster. Selanne, Koivu, Hiller, Bonino, Perrault, Penner, Winnik, Robidas, Sbisa. People can ''yeah, but they're old" me on this one, but so is Dany Heatley of all people, and I'm not convinced that Kesler, Heatley and Nate Thompson make up for those losses, despite the youth they're hoping steps up in that lineup. My bold and wishful prediction here: I think Kesler done goofed on this one. Anaheim is an injury to Getzlaf or Perry away from struggling to make the playoffs themselves. The Canucks leap frog them this year.
Warhippy
I find the Sportsnet page becomes just as awful too Eastern media... such a joke sometimes. I haven't gone on the sportsnet page since one of the mods banned me for questioning their preference for teams people were allowed to comment about. Nasvhille arguably has one of the best D Cores in the league with Jones and Weber with Rinne healthy they could be ugly to score against. Added they went out and got (for the first time in forever) solid scoring depth. They will be hard pressed to miss honestly Minnesota, they've got depth, scoring, solid goaltending and somehow someway an up and coming defense with Suter leading the way. I really think Van might be hard pressed to even achieve 9th. Added we have to run the gauntlet that is the Pacific and one of Calgary or Edmonton is going to play us hard point for point in the later stretches of the season I would think. Hard to say what could happen, but I still don't see the playoffs being it for us this year
Lockhart
With Miller's salary he should be playing 55+ games or it was a total waste of money.

Hairy Kneel
I think every point is going to count and this is where adding a bottom 6 forward who has shoot out skills will help. ie another shootout specialist could make the difference in a tight race. Sorry Hansen..
Darkstar
Even though TSN completely underrated Vancouver's goalie tandem, they make it up by overrating the position that the Canucks will finish in. They won't finish higher than 11th. It will be a fun season for a change though.
oldnews
The Leafs goaltenders better be the best in the NHL, They are going to get peppered again (and again, and again).

Sorry Hansen.. I know Michal Handzus is a shootout specialist and currently is an unrestricted free agent. But we have too many bottom six players on the team already. If we were to add a forward, it would be a second line player, but would have to make room for him. Besides, we added two great shootout specialists already this off-season - Vrbata and Bonino. The third shooter can be a player who is hot at that time, or probably a guy like Higgins or even Kassian.
homersexual
9th in the west sounds reasonable. I think the nucks will be in the mix for a wildcard spot.

ice orca
I don't mind the eastern media slagging the Canucks, what bugs me is the Vancouver media lapping it up and kissing their asses and never questioning them about anything.
Darkwing Canuck
I don't think the Miler/Lack to Bernier/Reimer comparison is that crazy. And Canucks fans (especially the ones on this board) are just as guilty of homer-ism as any TSN prognosticator.
khay
Yay!!! Those morons at TSN predicted the worst possible scenario for us, which means it WON'T happen!!!
on the cycle
We are not a lock to make the playoffs, however to say that Reimer (an ok backup) who plays ugly and Bernier who just finished his first year as a starter are better than Lack and a Vezina calibre (in the past) goaltender in Miller is ludicrous. Watch NHL network; their predictions and observations are far better which is odd seeing as they're American/Canadian where as TSN and Sportsnet are Canadian you would think they would be better but no NHLN is more even keeled as they have the canucks sneaking in with a wild card. These Canadian sports networks are too up to date they only look at last season; too now, now, now. Calm down TSN you are wrong every season it will be fun to see you be wrong yet again. Pay no mind.
