After a preseason sweep over the Oilers, Vancouver looks to continue it's winning ways in the first regular season match up between these two Western Canadian clubs. Vancouver posted a 3 - 2 record against Edmonton last season, including a memorable 4-0 win in December which proved to be Roberto Luongo's last shut-out as a Canuck.

First home game of the year, I'm expecting a big first period to get the crowd into it early. Another 4 - 2 win!

Hoping for a better performance than last nights game. It was a pretty sloppy game with not alot of completed passes and some bad defensive plays, I think we'll see better quality hockey this game since it was the first game of the season on Wednesday.

Our boys are going have to work hard for a full 60 minutes each game this season to get the right results. The Oil have improved.

I thought the rookie Leon D. was slotted in at second line centre. Some Edmonton fans have begun to call him Neon Leon. A nick-name long time Lions fans will recognize.

10 Things to know about home opener. Fans encouraged to arrive early to enjoy complimentary beverages, a party on the plaza and special player introductions:

Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks announced today 10 things fans can look forward to at Saturday’s home opener, including their first Labatt’s beer, Pepsi or bottled water on the house. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, with Rogers Arena opening at 5:30pm for the 7:00pm game versus the Edmonton Oilers.

“Elevating our fans’ experience at Rogers Arena was our biggest focus during the offseason and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back this week for the start of the regular season,” said Victor de Bonis, COO, Canucks Sports & Entertainment and Alternate Governor, NHL. “In addition to the changes to the team’s roster, fans can look forward to new menus, great food and an enhanced service experience. We’re expanding our concourses in the coming weeks and fans can expect suite upgrades, additional guest amenities and exciting game entertainment.”

10 THINGS FANS CAN LOOK FORWARD TO AT THE CANUCKS HOME OPENER

1 - The party starts at 5pm: Fans should plan to arrive early and join pre-game festivities on the North Plaza including food, music and entertainment before the puck drops. The Party starts at 5pm on the Plaza.

2 - Complimentary beverage: All fans will receive their choice of a complimentary Budweiser or Shock Top beer, Pepsi or bottled water when they arrive. Doors open at 5:30pm.

3 - Welcome New Faces: After a busy summer highlighted by key trades and offseason acquisitions, several Canucks players including goaltender Ryan Miller and forwards Radim Vrbata, Nick Bonino, Derek Dorsett and Linden Vey will don Canucks colours for the first time in the regular season at Rogers Arena. Saturday also marks Head Coach Willie Desjardins and his new staff’s first home game behind the bench.

4 - New opening video: The Canucks teamed up with local Award Winning GO 2 Productions to create a dynamic West Coast 3D animated ice projection show as part of the opening. Players will also be introduced individually as part of a special pre-game ceremony.

5 - New DJs and Entertainment: New Canucks DJs Marlon English and Jay Wallace will be spinning new and familiar tracks all night while new in-game host Hannah Bernard chats with guests and excites the crowd with interactive games and contests. A performance by Vancouver-based rock band, Dear Rouge highlights the game entertainment line-up.

6 - Opening night 50/50 draw: Opening night’s 50/50 draw is always exciting and traditionally has the largest take-home jackpot all season. This season the Canucks for Kids Fund teams up with Pointstreak 5050 to enhance the game day experience with an electronic 50/50 raffle system. Pointstreak 5050 enables raffle tickets to be sold by mobile volunteers throughout Rogers Arena. It also provides updated jackpots with real time displays on the main scoreboard, LED ribbon and a dedicated app allow fans to follow along.

7 - Great giveaways: Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win giveaways during each timeout, including two season tickets for the 2014.15 Canucks season.

8 - Jerseys off Our Backs: Each player will give away their game-worn jersey to a lucky fan at the end of the game.

9 - New food and drink options: Fans can enjoy fresh, inspired menus from new Executive Chef Robert Bartley at Rogers Arena with locally sourced in-season ingredients. Instant classic and iconic dishes include Steamer’s, named after Canucks legend Stan Smyl, and Smoke’s Poutinerie. A completely re-imagined beverage experience complements the menu led by renowned Director of Wine & Beverage, Jay Jones. 10 - Hammer’s Heroes: In celebration of young, local leaders 18 and under, who are making a difference in the community, Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis is proud to introduce the Hammer’s Heroes program. Each home game this season, one local leader will be given complimentary tickets to the game along with in-game recognition of his/her contribution to the community.
