Looks like the Tank-for-McDavid sweepstakes has started early.

TSN reports that the Sabres might have come to an early conclusion that they will not be competitive this year and might want to help their cause by offloading Myers, Stewart and/or Stafford.

Detroit and Anaheim are ireported nterested in Myers.

This summer, NBC's Pierre McGuire reported that Benning is interested in acquiring Myers; perhaps the second coming of Chara. But in the West. Standing at 6'8" and 227lbs, but only 24 years old, he is the prototypical number one defenseman who could thrive in a Desjardins system.

Some suggest Myers was brought in too fast by a desperate organization that is now retbuilding entirely and is ready to unload. Nonetheless, I would not be surprised to find out one day that Benning talked to Miller about Myers to inform himself.

If Buffalo is going to tank, then the last thing they need are players that will help them win now. They need to beat the Oilers for last place; something that will be hard to do.

I suggest the Canucks trade for Myers for two reasons; the Canucks could benefit greatly by acquiring such a defenseman with humongous upside.

But most of all, helping the Sabres to tank harder than the Oilers because I don't want McDavid ending up in Edmonton.

Myers isn't going anywhere, it's not like he's 34...

Myers has been a beast in Ted Nolan's system, and he's going to be a solid top-four d-man for the Sabres for many years to come. It would be a backwards move for them to trade him, especially since there are other ways that they could tank. You can never underestimate a good puck-moving presence, and Myers brings that and much more.

How did that "i" move over like 1- spaces?

And what would you trade for him?

Unless the price was ridiculously low, like Gaunce/More preferably Cassels or Fox, Subban/Cederholm, and a 2nd or 3rd, I would consider trading for Myers. Otherwise I would not touch him. We have no right trading anyone from the main roster for him right now, and there's no chance I ship a 1st in any deal for him. He seriously is so overrated. Good, but overrated.

Myers was brought in too early? He won the Calder Memorial trophy in his rookie season. The problem is that he was given a large lengthy contract the following season.

He is looking good so far this season because he worked his butt off over the summer. Any team willing to pay the large asking price will definitely benefit having him on their roster.

Stafford is in a contract year and he always plays his best hockey when there's money on the line. People in Buffalo are frustrated with him. There was actually some booing when he was announced in tonight's opening.

I have no idea why Murray has such a woody when it comes to off-loading Stewart. He's a tough grinder who sticks up for his teammates and he has some offense in his game.

I'd love to get Eichel and/or McDavid but if the Sabres purposely tank, I'm going to be very annoyed. I'm willing to bet Nolan won't be happy either since it won't make him look good and by the time his contract is up, the Sabres will have a boatload of talent because of all of these high draft picks the last two years that are maturing as time goes on.

I could see Edmonton going for Myers. Perhaps a combo of Myers and hodgson for yakapov?

What are you smoking? Yakupov is injury prone and has no defensive game. Also the Sabres are trying to get big highly skilled players. Nail Yakupov's 11 Goals and 13 assists in 63 games doesn't even warrant getting just one of those players.

I have no idea why half of CDC is so enamored with Yakupov.

yakupov is a decent player hodgson is a fivemillion dollar bust

myers and a 1st in next yrs draft should be fair for him

Cody Hodgson - Not a bust... Yet.

2013-14 72gp 20G 24A 44pts.

Nail Yakupov

2013-14 63gp 11G 13A 24pts.

Tyler Myers

2013-14 62gp 9G 13A 22pts.

Myer's Rookie Season

2009-10 82gp 11G 37A 48pts.

Myers is a defenceman who almost outscored Yakupov last year!

Myers and a first?! I wouldn't even trade Myers straight up for Yakupov.

Seriously, what's with CDC's hard-on with Yakupov?

*edit* whoops, put the wrong date for Myer's rookie year.

Tyler Myers is never going to be anywhere near as good as Chara. Myers has to be heavily sheltered in order to be effective, he's not a guy you trust to put against other teams top lines unless you're purposely trying to lose games. The similarities to Chara start and end with their height. Myers is horribad defensively, soft as a baby's ass, and has rocks for brains. Guy makes so many bad decisions. It's a shame though, you would think a defensemen that's that big and that good of a skater would be much better.

If you think Edler coughs the puck up a lot, you'll be appalled by Myers.

i only point out that the oil need/want a top 4 d man and a second line center. love him or hate him (i loathe him and all of the oilers for that matter) but yaks was a recent first overall pick and that counts for a heck of a lot.

on a side note, although its still relatively early, the HUGE CH for ZK trade doesn't seem so big anymore as both have as of yet failed to meet the respective expectations placed on them.

That's why people were saying that it would take 3 seasons until a solid judgment can be made. This is the season that will tell where each player is or isn't going. It doesn't take half a decade to see if a power forward will pan out as some would say that it does. Hodgson was taken off of Centre, so if he can't cut it this year as a winger then he'll be a bust.

This is a pivotal year for both players and neither of them can afford to do poorly.

#55 on Buffalo looks good too.

Somehow work a deal with him and Myers in it.

Would most likely have to give up a roster D or two, a high draft pick and a prospect or roster forward in return. Something along those lines.

Would look something like this:

Stanton and a Tanev or Weber or, Sbisa or Tanev and Weber, a 1st or 2nd and a Jensen, Rich,Hansen or Gaunce.

This would just be the foundation to start trade talks and not the final deal, it would all depend on what players they would be leaning towards.

Thats really confusing and hard to tell what you're offering. Rasmus Ristolainen is not getting traded no matter what.

Oh yeah one more thing. Tanev>>>>>Myers, and its not even close.

Right now there are plenty of Sabres up for grabs, but Rasmus Ristolainen isn't one of them. It's laughable how inept the players were the last 2 games. If any team is interested in any of the veteran Sabres like Stafford, now is the time to make a trade. Nolan and Murray are pretty angry with the team's poor play right now and if another team wants to pick up a player, that is the best time to do it. I'm just hoping that the Sabres don't trade someone like Hodgson. I still have high hopes for him on the wing. Myers is playing with some grit and a new attitude now. I'm curious to see where that is headed.
