Huckabee Threatens To Leave GOP Over Gay Marriage, Abortion

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says he will leave the GOP if Republicans abandon their ardent opposition to gay marriage and abortion.

Appearing on the American Family Associations radio show this week, Huckabee was discussing gay marriage and said: If the Republicans want to lose guys like me and a whole bunch of still God-fearing Bible-believing people go ahead and just abdicate on this issue, and why youre at it, go ahead and say abortion doesnt matter, either.

Because at that point, you lose me, Huckabee said. Im gone. Ill become an independent. Ill start finding people that have guts to stand. Im tired of this.

His comments follow the Supreme Court this week opting not to take up gay marriage, effectively clearing the way for several states to start issuing same-sex marriage licenses.

I am utterly exasperated with Republicans and the so-called leadership of the Republicans who have abdicated on this issue when, if they continue this direction they guarantee theyre gonna lose every election in the future, Huckabee said. Guarantee it.

And I dont understand why they want to lose, he continued. Because a lot of Republicans, particularly in the establishment and those who live on either the left coast or those who live up in the bubbles of New York and Washington, are convinced that if we dont capitulate on the same sex marriage issue and if we dont raise the white flag of surrender, and just the accept it as inevitable, well be losers.

I tell you, Huckabee said. Its the absolute opposite of that.

Don't let the door hit you on the backside on your way out Mike...

Maybe if a few more of these intolerant dickwads leave the GOP, they'll be worth voting for. Let the Tea Party have the backwards thinking, redneck vote and maybe America can start to bridge the huge divide that separates it's two main political entities.

When

When are gays and abortionists going to stop bullying people of faith?

Maybe when people of faith stop condemning them to an eternity in hell for actions that are none of their business.

When are Republicans going to finally stop bullying these people?

They won't. The far right in the USA lives in contradiction. They believe in freedom, so long as you're talking about their kinda freedom.

We could go back and forth on this. Why are gay people threatened by people of faith and traditional family values? They will never be able to have what the other has.

I live in Texas and have met Mike Huckabee. He is right that embracing gay activism is not a rallying cry for most Republicans.

In my state the gay rights movement has pissed a lot of Texans off, especially in the rural areas-- the rural areas make up most of the state. Many are tired by the constant barrage of the constitutional issues created by an activist federal court that is empowered by a President and Attorney General that refuse to defend federal law-- defending the law is their constitutional obligation, not their prerogative. This is also a separation of powers and state's rights issue too. Should the next President be a Republican, and that party controls both the House and Senate, this is going to be reined in.

Gay people are "threatened" by people of faith because they tell them they're living in damnation and will spend an eternity in hell. Moreover, they bring their religious beliefs into the legal sphere, and demand it to be illegal.

"Traditional family values" is a made-up loaded term created by far-right conservatives who still wish that women of colour cooked their meals for them. I refuse to even debate it's merit.

Your post reeks of ignorance. As others have mentioned until all religious institutions lighten up about gay people they will feel threatened....

. If that's your opinion, how do you account for the fact that the Republican, right wing dominated U.S. Supreme Court REFUSED to hear any appeals on the latest attempt to keep same sex marriage from being available in a lot of states, which resulted in more states now having it? That isn't Obama or the DoJs doing.

Republicans finally realized that their stance on remaining socially conservative would be the downfall of the party considering the youth of the United States are becoming more and more socially liberal.

Republicans have to switch their focus to being pro-military and fiscally conservative, still two large enough issues to keep their voting base.
