SabreFan1
2011 barely qualified as a riot. I've watched the videos on YouTube. The first time I saw them I was like, unless I was a car or a storefront window, I wouldn't exactly have been afraid. 98% of the people in the crowds just stood there watching the other 2% burn and break stuff. Horny Manatee
May have been a "small group of idiots rioting" but it was a huge crowd that didn't disperse, which made it dangerous. Rather than take pictures and videos to post online, people should have left so the cops could contain it better...but they had to weed through to find the perpetrators in a where's waldo way. "Hippies and environmentalists"? You mean those (like myself) who care about the important things, like the land we all occupy? Nope, can't blame them either. Bad apples do spoil many things...hell, even at the game last night there was an obvious attention monger who, while at first was slightly amusing, grew very monotonous and annoying after the second period. When he shouted out "Mark Messier was the best Canuck ever" it became painfully obvious that he was reaching. Anyhow, a lack of funding was the reason. So none of the above. It was actually a group of anarchists. Not a single Canucks fan was involved. Fact.
Grapefruits
It was actually a group of anarchists. Not a single Canucks fan was involved. Fact. So only anarchists rioted? LOL! If so, then this kid is definitely an anarchist http://www.vancouversun.com/technology/Rioting+teen+Nathan+Kotylak+family+face+backlash+forced+leave+home/4972283/story.html Just accept it and get over it. Some Canucks fans did get caught up in the rioting.
Offensive Threat
this is how it is in this city. A few people have vague concerns about noise or damage and events get cancelled. Events that enrich lives and foster joy in our citizens and visitors. Cant divert city funds to that stuff when there are bike lanes that wont be used for more than half the year to open. Lancaster
It's not 2011, the whole Vancouver cannot have fun without issues has been around for many many years. I do remember with the Symphony of Light years back about how some people went around stabbing others for no reason. Pretty much almost every fireworks there's some idiots being idiots. Go downtown every friday and saturday night and you have lots of drunks wanting to pick fights and causing mayhem. Not saying there are no drunken idiots elsewhere, but for a small bar/club scene relative to other cities, there sure are a high proportion of it. DonLever
It has nothing to do with the Canucks riot in 2011. The city says it has no money and there were not enough sponsors
THERETOOL
Is this in any way surprising? This city lost that privilege after what happened in 2011. Too many idiots live here. agreed

It's pretty obvious that many of the rioters were originally there to enjoy the game, but got "caught up" in the mob mentality and joined in the mayhem. DefCon1
This is a exaggerated American media version of what happened in 2011. Typical American media sensationalizing and exaggerating reports. They made that clip worse than a WWII movie and thats why I don't follow the American media, aside from their propaganda and one sided views. They made that clip worse than a WWII movie and thats why I don't follow the American media, aside from their propaganda and one sided views. It is pretty pathetic. Until money and politics came into the equation, people were once able to trust the news. Now the news is based on what kind of shock and what kind of outrage you can elicit from your viewers in order to keep them coming back to watch you. That reminds me of something...... oh, that's right, children. I'm glad that I get my news from more than just one source. It takes more time but helps filter out some of the b.s. ronthecivil
Oh, and it's not because of the riots, though that might have added to the cost portion of the failed business plan. Not enough money coming in vs. expected revenue. Same thing with the fireworks being on their death legs. The region is broke. Once you pay for your half million dollar skybox not much left to do besides enjoy your view.
