Me_
The Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Jonas Brodin to a six-year contract extension, the team announced Sunday. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Elliotte Friedman of "Hockey Night in Canada" reports the contract is worth $25 million Brodin, 21, has an assist and a plus-5 rating in two games this season while averaging 22:25 minutes per game. The No. 10 pick of the 2011 NHL Draft, Brodin finished fourth in Calder Trophy voting in 2012-13, and has 10 goals and 31 points with a plus-8 rating in 126 NHL games. "We are very excited to get Jonas Brodin signed through the 2020-21 season," Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher said. "He is one of the premier young defensemen in the NHL and has played a huge role on our team since entering the league as a 19-year-old. We're confident that his game will continue to evolve in all areas and he will be a valuable part of our core for years to come. Canuck Surfer
is this the way contracts go these days? where's the bridge contract? i'm all for the stars getting the bucks but this guy is only 20-21 years old. not that i'm bemoaning the wild spending this much. it just means they will have less to sign other players, which is good for us. Brodin actually left money on the table here. Could have taken two years at say $2.8 or $3 mill? Then gone for the motherload. Young players like Eberle, RNH and Hall all commanded $6 mill. What he did do is sign for a term that pretty much makes him a UFA at the youngest possible age. But gave the team a cap friendly deal that keeps them able to try and improve the team. Win / Win. -Vintage Canuck-
Great signing by the Wild. Very good puck-moving defenseman with some good upside.
