After 2 games some questions

If Corey Crawford and Antti Niemi can win Stanley Cups, I think we can safely say that Ryan Miller has the capability to as well. I happen to think St. Louis is massively over-rated as well, thus a lack of playoff success. Their top forwards are a notch below the top forwards of every other elite team out there. I think the Sedins are still better than any forwards on their team. People love David Backes because he fits a narrative of this tough player, but honestly look at the stats, him and Oshie have 18 points in 46 career playoff games combined. Not that good.

Miller will look good if the Canucks can play sound defensively and not leave him out to dry, and then hopefully he can pick up the slack when he needs to. From what I've seen out of Miller, he does improve when the moment gets bigger, which is what we want to see. (We'll see if he has the same self-destruction complex that Luongo did lol)

Why do some who claim Lack is too young and Cory was too young support unconditionaly goalies who became starters and pretty young ages themselves? What age is a good age for a goalie to be a starter? 26 too young?

After 26 you are pretty much a career backup.

Miller is a good goalie, I am not against the signing for ability but wanted that cap spent elsewhere as I have every confidence in Lack.

The team will give Miller over 60 starts this season no matter how he plays so there will be no Schneids/Lu Lack/Lu situation this time.

There should be a required age for posting - 25 years old or something.

Miller made saves he had to including in the shoot out. In other words he did his job and helped us win

Hah, if you look some of the worst posters on this board are in the 20-29 demograpic. Besides, this is a fan board and should be open to all ages

Two wins no losses, I'm happy. So what if Miller didn't get two shutouts? Haters gotta hate right? Let's give the man a chance. I don't give a rats ass about what he did or didn't do in St. Louis.

Btw, I hope that Eddie Lack and Miller both have great seasons. Why not, it would give our team a great chance of making the playoffs.

I feel like Miller really pulled it together and shut the door when it was needed in the 3rd.

Also willing to overlook a softy or two for that beautiful shootout performance. Also thought Kassian had a good game and he definitely seems to give the Oilers fits (which I love!).

So far so good, hard to complain with a 2-0 start for the season.

Every team needs two goalies.

Ours are veteran Ryan Miller, former Vezina winner, and Eddie Lack, the Stork, one of the coolest and best young goalies in the game. That has to be one of the best one-two punches in the league.

Nothing to see here.

Zack?

He got bumped to the fourth line with 3 minutes left in the second while we were down a goal. I'm not sure if it was to get a better defensive presence on the third with Dorsett, or what? The third line definitely got more ice time than the fourth in the 3rd period.

I am confident that this coaching staff isn't just moving players around without communicating why to the players themselves. Zack still had a hell of a game, even with a couple defensive miscues. He was very excited at the end of the game...didn't look phased at all. I'm excited to see Willie Desjardins put his skills to use with Zack and bring him along in a positive way.

Afer two games?

I'm freakin' pumped. Love my coach, love my team. I am interested in every player on our roster and intrigued by the possibilities of the season.

Hope springs eternal!

My personal concerns thus far...

1) Turnovers, I haven't looked at the stats, maybe they aren't as high as I think they are, but I feel like we're giving the puck away ALOT, especially from the back end. Against Edmonton we had a shift hemmed in our own zone all because Tanev turned it over, then (I think) Hamhuis got it back and turned it over again, it all started with 1 forechecker.

2) PP concerns me a bit, I've actually been very pleased with it overall, but the concerns come in on the poor ones. We had what, 7 PPs the other night and 2 were dreadful. The 4:00 double minor was AWFUL for the first 3:00. In the end everyone forgets it because we scored a beauty after that but we could barely keep the puck in the zone let alone get a shot for those 3:00. There was another one that had a really tough time getting anything going, just can't remember which, but it also resulted in a shorty. It seems at least right now the team is a bit "all or nothing" you could see in OT it was all Canucks, but in the third late you could see it got run and gun which favours the oilers and they got some really good chances.

3) Miller. I was really impressed with how he handled the 3rd/OT/SO. He had very little to do after the midway point of the 2nd but managed to keep his head in the game and play well when needed. But man...goals 1-2 I don't fault him on, one was the rocket from the point and the other was a guy way too open in the slot. But goals 3-4 I thought he needed to be much better on. We got it to 2-1 then we needed a save, didn't get it. I thought he looked really weak on the Yakupov goal, a little 2010esque almost (there was a similar one in the opener as I recall) and the Joensuu goal was nice and the D needed to be better but that was definitely a case where at 3-2, you REALLY need your goalie to come up with a big save and he didn't. Again, he did come up big when needed in the slim pickings of the final 25:00 and SO but I thought we could've been in a much better position had we gotten a few more saves. I'm not ragging on the guy overall, he's obviously a great goalie and I'm hoping these are just kinks he works out with more time on the ice/with the team.

after 2 games. in a season where many say this team will struggle nightly and are a fringe playoff team at best. i can only imagine the doom and gloom after 20 games.

hockey's back on tv THAT ALONE IS good news, canucks won versus two division foes (regardless of who they are) and had a come back win were they dominated the last half of the game.in a season of 82 games game 2, both victories i might add and gm, president and coach who all appear to be on the same page.i don't see any controversy or circus anytime soon. but as we all know in vancouver if there's nothing to complain about its a bad day (especially with the media) so we better make something up......

I agree...we have to do better at protecting the puck and not having it stripped away - especially with a guy coming up the middle. Needs work. Also, Miller's rebounds...we've been lucky that no one's been parked in front of the net in many instances, as it would likely be more goals against. He was better this game than last (preseason), but I find it glaring at times.

Thing is, baby steps...always going to be some kinks to work out and this is a vast improvement over last year's debacle. At least they're keeping up with the pace and not dragging out there - sure, behind a step at times with young teams but doing well to maintain a good pace. And to battle back from deficits...shows a renewed determination.

As long as they have the drive to the net, never say die instinct they'll be ok. When they start to lose that they'll be quickly swallowed up. I found some of their work out there mastery. Their skill can combat any speed deficits they may come up against. Sedins working their magic can dictate a game.

After 2 games for me there are questions. Although managing 2 wins and better Sedin play with Vrbata, I wonder if they are not starting another goal tending controversy. The idea again that Miller is the main goalie and Lack as backup when lack is clearly as good as Miller, is just like the Luongo, Schnieder debacle.

Are they going to over coach this group again; might have been evidenced by the 1st period last night ?

Is Kassian stifled by linemates, or a coach, or coaches? It is really too early to tell, but Kessler is playing well for the Ducks.

if we have another two tenders of the caliber of luo and schnieds then shouldnt we be happy. Also miller isnt signed for 12 years anyway. Overcoached??? I think kassian is the type of player to get better as the year goes on. Good luck to you in anahiem kes. You were a warrior for us good on you for wanting to win. Just hoping you have a minor injury just before we meet you in the playoffs though.

You guys that complain about this and Edler's play etc. how old are you? This team has depth that it has not had in awhile. We have "DEPTH" in goal. Period. The team is winning what is your problem? You have not even given this team to play 20 or even 10 regular season games yet and you are complaining. Todays generation wants things NOW and cannot understand patience. Believe me that after watching 32 seasons of hockey I know that you cannot judge a team after the second game of the season. This team will have some good streaks and probably a bad streak or two before the season is over so at least give the team at least 20 games before you bring up silly posts like these again. Thanks.

And because some set the bar at zero tolerance, bandwagon fans will leap at the first loss. Pace yourselves for sure...a long season and no team wins 82 games.

But it's ok to project, forecast and make observations. It's what a hockey forum is all about....we'd die out without those things. :)

Lack is not clearly as good as Miller. What are you basing that on, his 3 pre-season games?

Eddie Lack got destroyed at the end of last season. His save percentage was brutal. He is too young and he will get owned in the playoffs.

Ryan Miller is a ****ing savior. Stop spreading trash rumours about a goaltender controversy. You do not want Eddie Lack in net in the playoffs against Anaheim or Chicago.

Nailed it
