Mr. Ambien
This, IMO, is one of the best holidays of the year, around the time when supermarkets stock better food, better discounts on electronics and other goods for early holiday shoppers, prepping for Halloween, and so on.. And for those of us who work in downtown Calgary, an even longer weekend! (#yycthanks) http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/downtown-calgary-electrical-fire-damage-will-take-days-to-rebuild-1.2796497 Damage to downtown Calgary's electrical system from a fire Saturday will require a rebuild, not just repairs, said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. Nenshi spoke to media Sunday afternoon in a press conference from the Calgary Emergency Management Agency headquarters to provide an update after an underground electrical fire caused a power outage in a large part of the downtown core affecting approximately 2,100 businesses and 5,000 residents. The province issued a critical emergency alert Sunday morning at 10:07 a.m. local time to let residents know some landline phones in the downtown core will not be able to access 911 as a result of the outage. However, the 911 centre itself is still working and anyone trying to contact dispatchers for an emergency is advised to use their cellphone or another person's cellphone. We've got some turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and wife tonight made some home made apple crumb pie, apple pie cookies, cheesecake, little cheesecake muffins, and will be making a few other things tomorrow to make the cooking load easier for when friends/family/moving neighbours who sold their house visit. Have a cache of booze too. Will be watching the 49ers game and some Euro Qualifiers. May or may not watch NHL. To many posters' disappointment, will likely be posting occasionally. What's everyone else doing?

-DLC-
Going against the grain this year...went to visit Dad and we had lasagna. Turkey doesn't impress me, but the trimmings do. I immediately go for stuffing, cranberries, sprouts and yams....so am a weirdo. Turkey's just about filling the house with aroma. Because I'm going through a bit of a tumultuous time, laying low. Appreciating the small things in life. The very best to all of you...may you find a pair of Joey turkey pants in a closet to get full mileage out of the deal. What's everyone else doing? Happy Thanksgiving, Ambien and all CDC members...we did a giant roast beef last night at my sister's place...mashed potatoes, candied yams, yorkshire pudding, lots of brown gravy with mushrooms, sweetened carrots, heaps of corn, apple pie (in lieu of pumpkin pie), roasted asparagus...I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of stuff that my sister worked so hard to prepare for our family. Today, I'm just laying around with my wife and dogs and thinking about rain-guarding our deck before the heavy rains start to fall. What's everyone thankful for? Me...I'm thankful for my awesome/beautiful wife and great dogs and family and friends...and that the Canucks are showing lots of promise for this season. We may not win the Stanley Cup, but the team we got is going to fight every step of the way.
Gross-Misconduct
Had the family dinner last night. We've had the same family tradition for about 12 yrs now where my family goes to my Uncle's house for Thanksgiving dinner. My Uncle has been divorced for many years now and I think the reason we all started going to his place in the first place was to help him with the divorce. You know, give that close family feeling to help with his hurt. My aunt had moved away and moved on so it wasn't like we were ignoring her. Last night's dinner actually meant more to me than most of our Thanksgiving dinners at his house because I got the feeling it might of been the last. His health isn't so great and he hinted strongly that this was likely the last time he plays Thanksgiving host. That plus I'm getting older too. I enjoy seeing my cousins who are much younger than me and being with everyone but I dont know how many more Im going to. Gotta move on at some point. Plus like I said, I dont even know where the future ones will be. So to end a long boring story, Im thankful that my loved ones are relatively happy and healthy and hope the best for all CDC'rs and their families
Wilbur
I don't think we could've fit more people in our townhouse. At first it was going to be just my mother-in-law and her fiancée along with my family. My sister didn't have any plans so she was invited along with my brother-in-law and niece. Then we found out my mom was coming out from Creston for my nieces 1st birthday so she was added to the list. Then, my brother took the opportunity to make the trek down with my mom and he brought along his 2 sons and daughter. Then, with a suddenly clear schedule, my dad joined the trek out from Creston. So, in a matter of a week, Thanksgiving Dinner went from 6 people to 15. It was fun, the novelty of actually hosting a turkey dinner still hasn't worn off.
