Brendan Gaunce for D prospect

Recommended Posts

Prospect-wise, our center situation looks pretty good right now. Sure, we don't have a surefire No.1 center prospect, but between Bo Horvat, Jared McCann, Brendan Gaunce and Cole Cassels, we look fairly deep.

That is why I propose we trade one of them.

Now, Bo Horvat has a lot a value, but he also just happens to be our best prospect. Add to that the fact that he is very good in the circle (a skill that our roster currently lacks), and it's clear that it probably wouldn't be worth it to trade him at this point.

Jared McCann is somebody with the offensive tools to become a No.1 center in the NHL. Sure, it's a long shot, but he's the best hope we have at this point to fill the slot that Henrik Sedin currently occupies. So I wouldn't move him.

Cole Cassels has exceeded expectations since being drafted in the 3rd round last year. He was well over a PPG average in Junior last year, and looks to continue his solid play this year. Considering that he was a 3rd round pick, he's probably worth a lot more to us than another team.

That leaves Brendan Gaunce as the odd man out. While Gaunce is a very good hockey player, we have enough depth at center to make him expendable. Taking into account the fact that the term "1st round pick" carries some weight in the NHL, it seems to me that we could potentially move him and get a solid Dman prospect in return.

After looking at other teams prospects (their strengths and weaknesses), I was not able to come up with the perfect scenario for a trade. I was just curious as to whether or not anybody on the board had any ideas.....

I would trade exactly nobody in that list for at least one full season of AHL hockey unless the right deal came along.

As is they're just prospects. A few might have played a couple of NHL games, but that's it.

After this season, Shinkaruk, Jensen, Horvat, Gaunce will all have had some time in the big boy leagues giving both the Canucks and other teams a much better idea of what they are looking at.

No point trading any of then right now as their value is indeterminate.

trouba + 2nd 2015 for gaunce good trade imo

LOL... you must be joking or Chevy's on something... even though Jacob hasn't scored a point yet he's still a top-pairing guy in the Peg. If we can get him then that would be sweet but we'd better be ready to pay up.

(I mean, come on. Really? Nice try trololol.)

It's a tough one(like Gaunce, seems a sharp kid), but I can appreciate the rationale..Hank, Vey, Bo, Matthias, Rich..yeah, pretty deep at C, probably for a while.

Also like McCann's potential, as well Cassels in that he's a righty(& bloodlines).

Maybe if we added a decent piece to Gaunce(xtra 'tender or D)?

Perhaps go after a young D in NJ, Buff(Zadorov?), or NYI(Pulock?)

Swing another deal with the Ducks, I would assume they are on pretty good terms.

[TO ANA]: Brendan Gaunce

[TO VAN]: Shea Theodore

*With the emergence of William Karlsson, Anaheim might not be interested. However, landing Shea Theodore would be unbelievable for Vancouver moving forward.
