Mr.DirtyDangles
If Lupe doesn't want to be oppressed and held down by likes of these main stream labels....why continue to be with them? Take a lesson from Immortal Technique. I love Tech he is my favorite of all time. So true and to the point most cannot handle his lyrics they hit too hard. Mr.DirtyDangles
Fair enough. Essentially that's how Anonymous works. They pretty much 'blackmail' , threat you for what they stand up for and believe in. Thing about major record labels is that they want to control your content, They want you to have 'radio friendly' songs. You cannot just give them a final product and expect them to just put it out there. Lupe is an activist, He raps about situations that people can actually relate too and pretty much this.. But, I guess since it's not as marketable as opposed to rapping about chicks, money and cars the record company doesn't see a profit. They actually try to control the image of the artist as well. What they wear how they look and act. Marketing groups think their sample groups of pure white trash middle America are what the rest of society want. They have no clue :D
DarthNinja
Yeah, cuz u cant really play songs like this on "public radio". I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets How much money does it take to really make a full clip? 9/11, building 7, did they really pull it? Uh, And a bunch of other coverups Your child's future was the first to go with budget cuts If you think that hurts, then wait, here comes the uppercut The school was garbage in the first place, that's on the up and up Keep you at the bottom but tease you with the upper crust You get it, then they move it, so you never keeping up enough If you turn on TV, all you see's a bunch of "what the f*cks" Dude is dating so and so, blabbering 'bout such and such And that ain't Jersey Shore, homey, that's the news And these the same people supposedly telling us the truth Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either I’m a part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful And I believe in the people, yeah ... Pills with million side effects, take 'em when the pain's felt Wash them down with diet soda, killing off your brain cells Crooked banks around the world would gladly give a loan today So if you ever miss a payment, they can take your home away Getting kicked off the stage at Obama's inauguration for speaking the truth didn't help him either. Hell yeah, Immortal Tech is defiantly one of my favs..always bumpin' that in the whip. and it's so true how harsh his lyrics are. They actually try to control the image of the artist as well. g_bassi13
I really liked The Cool. I haven't enjoyed a single song by him since then. It's been bad. I don't have any expectations otherwise with this one.

Take a lesson from Immortal Technique. That's a good point. I don't even listen to music but I have a lot of admiration for him after reading "Cause of Death" lyrics...just wow. I see the world for what it is, beyond the white and the black The way the government downplays historical facts 'Cause the United States sponsored the rise of the 3rd Reich Just like the CIA trained terrorists to the fight Build bombs and sneak box cutters onto a flight When I was a child, the Devil himself bought me a mic But I refused the offer, 'cause God sent me to strike With skills unused like fallopian tubes on a dyke My words'll expose George Bush and Bin Laden As two separate parts of the same seven headed dragon And you can't fathom the truth, so you don't hear me You think illuminati's just a f*cking conspiracy theory? I was watching the Towers, and though I wasn't the closest I saw them crumble to the Earth like they was full of explosives And they thought nobody noticed the news report that they did About the bombs planted on the George Washington bridge Four Non-Arabs (*Israelis actually) arrested during the emergency And then it disappeared from the news permanently ...just wow. Drewismyname
Rupert you have no clue. Rap began as a form of music that fought the power that kept those who were under it down. After some years it changed and was essentially bought by the record labels and steered in the direction of consumerism. That started around the death of tupac if i am correct. Lupes lyrics spread the word that actual innequality is wrong as opposed to the word of the rappers major labels like which say that equality only happens when you are rich enough to buy it. Dazzle
happened long before 2pac if lupe was so against financial inequality, he wouldn't be signed to a major label and living a lavish lifestyle A lot of artists and other wealthy individuals may seem 'humbled' by their wealth and they all live lavish lifestyles. Nothing wrong with that per se, but it's what they do with their time off that defines them. Usually the more rich people form some foundation under their own name which in turn does help but not without the advertising. On a slightly unrelated note, Pitt and Jolie are both extremely rich yet they are the rare types that quietly do what they do and everybody knows it. They don't purposefully make a point that they are doing something better than all the rest of the people.

Some celebs like the attention involved with philanthropy, and others simply don't care... Either way they're making a difference.
