Does Vey really fit in this line-up?

At the start of the season, everyone was worried about whether we could score goals and win games.

We're number 2 in the league and firing on all cylinders at the moment.

I don't think we need to worry right now, about who fits and who doesn't.

Let's just keep the momentum rolling!

Agreed. With the 6-million dollar man between the pipes I'd say gearing your forwards for offense and letting Miller earn his paycheck isn't a bad strategy.

As long as Willie and co. work with Vey on his D/faceoffs we can be thankful he provides a tangible offensive spark in the meantime.

I'm more concerned about Mattias. Now maybe its just a while to adjust to two different coaches. His play has improved recently. I do not envy the coaches and Benning, because there's going to be some hard choices to be made on our roster.

But it's nice to know we do have guys on the farm that will be more than just warm bodies on the ice.

There is still a long season ahead and Kassian's injury comes at a bad time. Hopefully he is back in soon. I like what I was beginning to see with Matthias Richardson and Kassian. Do think that Horvat in time is better suited to centre that line. Think Richardson as a UFA would be less likely to be resigned than Matthias but I guess we'll see. As for Vey I'm not sure yet where he actually fits. Definitely needs to beef up and learn defensive side of game. Jury still out? Might as well add that I think Kassian likely becomes a very good third line type player. Really hasn't shown me as much as others seem to think that he belongs on a second line or even a power play.

Linden Vey has been very well managed by Coach Desjardins, Linden is still green and meanwhile we are winning. It would be an entirely different matter if we were losing, nothing like learning on the fly while ahead of the pack early on.

lol uhm as you can see, this is the lineup:

D.Sedin - H. Sedin - R.Vrbata

C.Higgins - N.Bonino - A.Burrows

B.Richardson - S.Matthias - B.Horvat

D.Dorsett - L.Vey - J.Hansen

Kassian is getting outplayed, im serious. this guy has a ton of potential, but very inconsistent.

He's injured :picard:

Uh, no

He's injured :picard:

He is injured, yeah but even if he wasnt, ahaha he is gettin outplayed, he is minus -4 with 4 pts in 13 games, isnt this suppose a breakout year for him? Linden Vey has more points than him, and they say Vey doesnt fit in our lineup. Kassian brings edge and grit and toughness in our group, but he also needs to be responsible in all parts of the ice, because right now, Bo Horvat is great at faceoffs, really good defensively, creates a havoc infront of net, pushes hard,

now i might be wrong, explain to me how hes not getting ouplayed.

Explain to me why you think a 23 year old is supposed to be a point a game player.

Because Crosby. Either you are the best or nothing. Duh.

Also, developing young players is overrated. If they don't get in the top 30 of scoring in their first season then they are a complete bust.

And up is down.

Vey's great. He can clearly play a role on any part of the team. It's his first full year, so his minutes are being properly managed on a bottom 6 role. He looks a little lost defensively but that can probably be taught over time.

So far he's showing a lot of promise.

What's up with Vey lately?

Last two games has seen his ice time evaporate to under 10 mins from 14-15 mins per game.

What exactly does this guy have to offer to this lineup as it's currently constructed? He averages 1 shot per game, hits and blocked shots are non-existant, so bad on faceoffs he doesn't even get to take them very often and doesn't even get on the PP anymore.

He basically has one foot in the press box. I'm not throwing the towel in on him but for someone who was hyped to be a great acquisition, he certainly hasn't looked like anything more than a 13th forward over the past 10+ games.

There's always going to be ups and downs for a skill type player. It doesn't seem to be lack of effort on his part. I like his skill set, personally. We have lots of grinder types.

If he's going to be this soft, then I'd like for him to just pick up the speed. But at this point in his development I think we're pretty much seeing what he is. Just a small skilled center who's not going to cut it as a center at the NHL level, and now has the task of becoming a reliable NHLer in the 'small, not all that fast, primarily offensive playmaking winger' role. It is fairly difficult to do that. It was strange hearing from some sources that he's a grit player. In what universe?

I know Kassian has been a headache so far, and he's sulked pretty much the whole season, but at least there's some sort of size/skill combo with him. If there was a way to just get through to him then maybe we can get a Bickell-type, which Chicago found out to be at least useful in the playoffs.

At least Kassian is signed and Vey will be cheap, if not let go.

Like I said whe I started this post and so many people disagreed. Vey does not fit in this lineup. He can't take face offs. Is soft. And isn't a top 6 player. He is a star AHL player. I hope he can develop to more. But at this point he does not improve this team.

From what I've seen with Vey, he's going to be a very good player in time. Benning's core idea is that you need to bring young guys up to learn the game and see how its done. Vey doesn't need more time in the AHL. He needs to learn the NHL game. There are moments when you can see huge upside.
