Amish Rake Fighter
Exactly. I am glad I am not the only one to remember that not 11 month ago. Torts was being classified as the greatest Canuck coach of all time by many on this site. Torts probably had the best resume of any Canuck coach in history when he showed up. Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw
Calm and relaxed in press conferences, looks a little unhinged and very on edge in games. I hope he can get more out of the second line like he did today.
Saved_by_Jesus
Plus, let's not forget how good the special teams are looking. Gotta give coaching credit for that. Hey Torts, maybe working on this stuff in practice isn't so bad after all?
Mathew Barzal
Honestly, even me being the judgemental guy I am, have no idea what to say. He's done the predictable and safe plays but looks like a nervous wreck behind the bench a lot of the time. Our PP already looks more dynamic, breakouts are usually crisp (unless Hamhuis has it, I'm which case multiple figure eights must be done in our own end) and the only truly boneheaded plays seem to be coming from Sbisa and Kassian. If i could say one bad thing about him it's probably his reluctance to break up our second line. But if he's keeping them together to try and build potential chemistry I'm all for it. SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Still early days but lots of positives so far from the Desjardins coaching staff. Really like how he holds the players to a high standard but also shows a lot of patience and positivity. Doesn't shy away from calling guys on mistakes but he also doesn't seem to scapegoat or doghouse, which has been a refreshing change. Gives players chances to bounce back after mistakes, like playing Sbisa in critical roles like big PKs or final minutes, even during games where he's made some really poor plays earlier. Seems to understand Edler and have a plan for getting the best out of him. And while the new systems are still a work in progress, if the team can really get humming along, it looks like Desjardins has designed a team concept that might be able to squeeze good value out of a limited roster, and compensate for many of the personnel weaknesses. And finally, the players just seem happier and more connected as a team than they have in years, which reflects well on the new coaching staff (and management). alfstonker
Willie imo will be a gem for this club. He has a gentleman's demeanour that hides a tough and thoughtful approach to coaching. He will never throw a player under the bus and I love his approach to playing the game. When he said Miller was owed special consideration because of what he has achieved I thought that was refreshing and it certainly paid off last night. Give him the time and the tools and he will bring us a SC, I'm convinced of it. (especially with a GM like Benning, who has an eye for talent, behind him) "When the only thing I can hold against the man is that he's a boring interview? I think we're sitting pretty." I don't think he is boring, I think he gives off an air of thoughtfulness and respect when he addresses the media. He is no "yes man" and yet doesn't leave interviewers looking like fools even when they ask silly questions. He speaks to people as if they are family, in a good way. alfstonker
That's an understatement. He's been great and even though it's a handful of games, he's been great so far. He's a players coach and players want to play for him. He is very well spoken, interacts with players at a human level (not some robotic one where he expects players to be Godly), has excellent game strategies and as we can see, his style of play is perfect for the team. Have outplayed the opponents every game and he uses players to their strenghts and doesn't force them into an uncomfortable situations which they aren't the best at/are asking for. Can clearly see after a long long time the entire team is behind our bench boss and there is no ruckus in the locker room. It's a great change to see with so many years of noise and the players really play for him and give it their all. Totally agree. Anyone watching last night can see his approach start to bed in and ironically one player who he seems to be getting through to is Sbisa. I thought he had a fine game last night and could be something special for us under Willie. (Our new Bieksa perhaps, in a good way)

SuperReverb2
Pulls Miller and then a few minutes later walks down the bench and tells him he's going to get the start in St Louis. Says it all for me. How do you NOT play your ass off for a coach like that?
terrible.dee
Probably the most exciting hockey i've seen in a while. Love the fact that everyone is contributing and the fact we can actually score goals this year lol This, I'm far less concerned with winning, then if the games are fun. For us and the players. Because it does seem like the more fun the players have the more we enjoy the games. The most telling moment was an interview with Hamuis, When asked about there defensive system he answered that " They are going more on instinct them systems" I wanted to jump out of my chair and start applauding. Hockey was mean to be played from the gut not from the head. So far wille seems like my dream coach...It's like I'm coaching the team myself...only he actually knows what he's doing. So far I am thrilled, but as we all know, things can change fast! So, I reserve the right to reevaluate. A lot of the credit goes to Trev too, from the beginning he talked about his vision for the team, and so far he has delivered exactly what he said he would. not that we would win the cup, but that we would ENJOY watching the Canucks again. He had a vision stuck to it and got the people in place that could make that vision a reality. I can enjoy a win and I can enjoy a loss, it's all about whether a team is willing to let it ll hang out or not, and so far this year, were hanging low!!! So yes, so far, I couldn't happier and will be more then happy to spend money on the Canucks, whem I am in tow (Which is often) This version of the team deserves to make money. And I will be happy to keep buying their product so long as Trev's vision is stuck to. No playoffs? No problem! Just keep the restrictive defensive zone systems, and immediate punishment for any one who makes a mistake while taking a risk far away from the club and I believe we will get there soon enough (maybe really soon). In the meantime let's have fun on the journey. Only complaint so far is that Sestito hasn't ben able to slot in, and I would like to see what he could do with 10 minutes a night and permission trust his instincts. Other then that, Wille gets top mark from me, not just as a Canucks coach, but compared to any other coach is the league. So far anyway. I feel bad for the poster who was arguing with me a while back about how the Tampa's 1-3-1 from a few years back was excellent hockey, and how their coach Guy....can't remember the last name was a great coach. He must be hating this. My answer to that was, he isn't a great coach if nobody wants to watch his team play. There's a reason why the Devils don't sell tickets. This is the entertainment business! And so far, win or lose, wille has kept me entertained every night!
Me_
Loving how he's rolling 4 lines. No forwards are under 10 minutes. That alone takes care of every brain in that room. That's how players get to play for each other.

terrible.dee
Exactly. I am glad I am not the only one to remember that not 11 month ago. Torts was being classified as the greatest Canuck coach of all time by many on this site. Not by me, I saw the style he was bringing and personally thought it was B.S from day 1. Didn't care that we were winning at the time, I just looked at it and said "This is not Canucks hockey, I don't like it" although I remember debating with several posters about how wasn't a good coach for us, what happens to the flip flop types do they leave? Or is it always the same people, they just keep chaining their mind? I don't really pay attention to names on this site.

Torts was being classified as the greatest Canuck coach of all time by many on this site. I was never on the band wagon, even when we were doing well, i never had full confidence in torts. to me it always felt like were on shaky ground. this year though, with linden and benning up top, it feel stable. i am not going to go out and say willie is/ will be the best canucks coach but i do think he will be around awhile.
