Guest Cuporbust2
Has bonino thrown a hit yet? Serious question. Well , he did have 8 points in 13 playoff games and cost less then half keslers salary. But hey, kesler threw a few hits.

Guest Cuporbust2
I'm not knocking the guy just curiousKesler was more physical no doubt. I don't think that's a big part of bonino s game unfortunately. All considered though , kesler was not worth what he got paid here IMO in comparison. Bonino at 1.9 is a great deal with the potential to be one of the best deals in the league if he continues to improve.
DownUndaCanuck
Apparently we were going to get Vataanen in the deal if he didn't want to stay in Anaheim which would have been huge. Still, Bonino will be able to provide more than Kesler in 3-5 years time which is when we're going to be competing again, by then Kesler will be no more than a 4th line center. SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
I don't have access to my numbers right now as I'm on my phone but the stat I always look to regarding Kesler is the fact that during his tenure in Vancouver, the Canucks posted a better record when Kesler was injured than when he was actually in the lineup. And that was through replacing Kesler with our depth, not with a quality addition like Bonino. There are many reasons for this, and I've looked into them in previous posts, but one possibility is that we actually play a better team game when we cycle through lines in all situations rather than hard matching and extreme zone starts, like we had the luxury to use when Kesler was here. Maybe the "all hands on deck" approach allows the other players to raise their level of play to meet the higher competition (created by Kesler's absence) and a "by committee" sharing of the tough matchups actually makes us more difficult to beat as a overall team unit. Whatever the case, the past has shown that this team plays better without Kesler in the lineup. Hopefully, the future will see this trend continue. BanTSN
Kesler was a very selfish player , on and off the ice We should have traded him instantly then. He hung around for 10+ years though and we went to the finals largely because of him. Maybe if he was more selfish he'd have won a cup for himself then, but oh well. He stayed here because he is a good player. But that doesn't mean he was great. There is a difference between good and great. It was no secret the guy was not respected on or off the ice. Anyone that lives in van knows what kind of a rep he had here as a person.

If he was that selfish maybe he should have demanded a trade sooner. Maybe him demanding a trade after years and years of being here made some of us butthurt. Team 1040 reported that his A was stripped from him via a players meeting. And ask anyone that frequented bars in van what he was like off the ice. People 'frequenting bars in van' would be among those who are butthurt about him wanting out, imho. Anyway, we have Bonino now, we're just going to have to live with it, and this thread is redundant. Guest Cuporbust2
Bam. Gary vaulk just said the exact same thing. Said kesler on the power play needed the puck each and every time he was on the pp and that's the reason our power play is better without him. Those were he words. The pp is better without him. So why u seem to think otherwise ?
