With all due respect, there's been 2 hits that were let slide in the last week and a half far worse than that embellishment. 1 game MAYBE but 3 is an utter farce.

This is not homerism, we all expected a game maybe 2 but 3 is entering Rome territory with little to no explanation as to the justification of the length

I did think the hit was dirty/late. Meh. If the league was consistent with its suspensions no one would be complaining. The issue for me isn't the amount of games Burrows got, it's that the league can seem to decide on what is/isn't suspendable or the lengths for an action.

Agreed. I was the first to comment in the GDT that burrows was gonna get suspended and actually too a lot of flack.

I don't mind the suspension I just wish it wasn't a game of Russian roulette where the same hit gets nothing when another player does it.

I think it's pretty obvious there's no conspiracy.

Most fans realize this is based on Burrows reputation.

If it was Richardson or Higgins that made the same hit, I think it's safe to say that they don't get 3 games.

Where is the explanations for Chara, Lucic, Nolan Thorton and more if it's reputation based?

Not digging at you DN, but this league is getting more and more shoddy every season

There's no way it didn't deserve something as some have bleated. I thought 2, though. 3 is close enough (if were 5 then I think there would be legitimate complaining to do).

As an aside, as much as people complain about the NHL and Bettman, the NHLPA likely has as much or more to do with imporper discipline as the league itself (the restrictions on levels, fines, wiping a repeat offender's slate clean after a few years all (as far as i know) come from the NHLPA. They need to step up to help the game too.

So much reckless and dirty play? Are you serious? Nearly a decade in the league and never a suspension. And for the last five seasons he concerned himself less with being a pest and more with scoring goals. He has been unfairly vilified by people who clearly don't watch the games.

And on top of that no player in the league has been subjected to more unpenalized assaults than Burrows. He surely has taken more dirty hits than he has ever doled out.

I suspect fans from 29 other teams would disagree with you.

Once again the Canucks get screwed by the NHL overseers.

About time those running the show better start watching the Ref's since lopsided calls are all the rage this year, when it comes to the Canucks games, remember we're all watching this never ending farce.

Three games for Burrows is a joke, after all the fellow he hit came back and finished the game. Looked more like the player took a dive, than a hit to the head.

So, suspensions should only occur if someone leaves the rink in a stretcher?

It certainly doesnt help out Alex's cause,...that Quintal had a very long and deep-seeded relationship & allegiance to the Habs organization. In most instances... this would be considered a 'conflict of interest'. The NHL has seeded their DPS... and not made it at all regionally representative, for dubious reasons.

Incidents like this, will always be viewed through the eyes of the beholder, & we all know where those biases ally themselves as far as the DPS is concerned,... past & present. The NHLPA should definitely work to get the composition of this group fixed, asap.

And - there's no talk of Emelin's possible embellishment? Very, predictable, considering the eyes doing the evaluating here.

And - as for Burr being fined in the past now necessitating a stiffer penalty here,...really?! Fines like speaking-up in protest as a whistle-blower, ya mean? That's completely unrelated to dangerous play or violence. This was a hockey-play gone astray,... NOT an act of vindictive or violent retribution by a multiple-offender like Duncan Keith on Sedin (out several weeks - 5 game suspension) or Carter (hurt -1 game suspension).

What the hell is this anyway? One or 2 games, fair maybe. More,..was showing that this league clearly plays favorites in these things. Nothing that isnt already known, however...but I damn well, wish someone would just fix it, 'cuz we all know that the League Commissioner just isnt interested in doing his job in this regard..

Someone cue the video of CGY's McGrattan ending Alberts career. No penalty or suspension. That's what ya get when your President & league insider has been accepting pay as an advisor for multiple teams in the league over recent years, ...except yours. Things that make ya go.... hmmmm.

BTW: DPS member Patrick Burke,..says "Hi there, 'Nucks-fans!

Not a hearing, a phonecall, silence! Yet Andrew Alberts is all but finished. Elder last season getting suspended when no contact was made on Hertl, I really have a problem with this kangaroo court system the NHL has in place. Keith got 4 games for leading with the elbow, and Daniel wasn't the same player for over a year. Burrows get three and the guy returns in the same period. These suspensions are all over the map and I'm convinced a lot of lobbying goes into the sentences by the teams affected. Whether its the media, opposing coaches, or GM's. This isn't working Gary.

Does anyone have a realtime angle which shows exactly how much time elapsed from Emelin playing the puck to contact? Because the only tv angle doesn't show it and by guessing it seems to be around .6-.9 seconds difference. There's going to be a lot of suplementary discipline if hits 1 second after the puck leaves a stick are 3 gamers.
