3 reasons why the Canucks should put in a claim for David Schlemko

If we don't claim him then is it a vote of No Confidence from WD that Schlemko isn't an NHL player in his eyes, or is it a fact of numbers from the GM?

Are you asking what CDC will deem the truth, or what the decision making process actually was? B)

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Edler - Tanev

Sbisa/Stanton - Schlemko

That's a pretty nice top six and gives us a third right shot. Low-risk/high reward type move.

One problem though... Schlemko shoots left. He is basically just a better puck moving less physical version of Ryan Stanton.

Depth never hurts but at the price of what? Is there a contract or two that need to be moved out in order to sign Subbban and accomodate Schlemko?

Obvious corresponding waiver move would be Sestitio if the Canucks pick him up for some reason.

I always thought he was a righty for whatever reason. Oh well. More depth at D doesn't hurt.

3 reasons why we shouldn't:

1.) we don't need him

2.) we're winning right now - what would bringing in another D say to our current lineup? you're not good enough?

3.) we don't need him

what kind of trash is "the canucks need help everywhere they can get?"

hell no they don't.

what this would do would shake the lineup up - hey, if that means a higher draft pick because we fall in the standings as a result, I'm all for it. I'm all about the draft.

if we don't have room to sign subban why add this guy

We don't really need defensive depth right now, we need quality. There are plenty of guys like Weber, Sbisa, Stanton, Corrado (and even Andersson, Sanguietti and Cederholm who are impressing in the AHL this season) who can comfortably play a bottom pairing role and fill in for injuries.

Our BIG problem on defence is our top-4. Edler has been sturdy but still scoring under a 40 point pace, Tanev hasn't put up many points and is an even defenceman, but what's worse is that Hamhuis and Bieksa have been playing the worst hockey of their NHL careers this season. They've looked good at times but are getting burned time and time again by speed and size. Together I think they combine to have two of the worst +/- ratings in the entire NHL, which is a joke considering we're one of the best teams in the league.

Don't bother with Schlemko, we need to find a top-4 defenceman who can take some of Hamhuis and Bieksa's minutes because they're struggling this season and it's no secret.
