TheRussianRocket.
http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1772799 ...some notable quotes from Sabres fans, starting off with the OP: The Curious Case of Cody Hodgson It's well known that he's not my favorite player, but even I never expected it to come to this point with him. I always thought he was a decent NHL caliber player who just needed to play a little further down the line-up to hide his defensive warts. But 18 games into the season, he's got 1 goal and 1 assist and a minus 10 on the season. He's been relegated to one of the last men on the bench by Nolan, and if something doesn't change, he looks like one of the worst contracts in the league. What's going to happen with this player Bad player playing on a worse team. I'll admit that I was wrong about Cody as a player. I thought he'd improve and become a legitimate top-six center. I really don't think that's the case. This Hodgson is the same Hodgson we've seen since he's come to Buffalo; he just doesn't have the numbers to insulate his overall play anymore. You can only live off your 7-year-old WJC performances for so long. You should have seen this messageboard the day he was acquired. Pure ecstasy. I'm happy that the team's future success is clearly not contingent on Hodgson amping his game up as a key player. I don't think what is happening with Hodgson is any great mystery. He is a streaky, one-dimensional player in a slump on a historically bad team, and the coach doesn't like him. Long-term, there's not room on this team for both Hodgson and Ennis. Judging from the GM and Coach's comments, I'd think Hodgson is definitely the odd man out there. looks like total garbage this year. You can tell Nolan is in his ear, as these tiny little moments of effort/finish pop up on a single play or a couple shifts. But the consistent effort, style of play, etc that Nolan wants, just isn't there. Cody has no heart. As for the contract... it's not even in the vicinity of one of the worst contracts in the league. Given his age, and the length of the deal only going through his mid to late 20s... it's simply not even comparable to something like the Clarkson contract. .. ... And best one imo:"Right now, he looks awful in a scoring line role, because there is no talent around him to lift and/or compliment his play. He needs players that create space, drive possession, and feed him opportunities to make plays in the space. Right now, he looks awful in a bottom 6 role, because there is nothing about his game that fits in that role." At least Kass can be useful for us in ways Cody can't. Kass can play as a 2nd line winger when coach gives him full time duties and he's showed his offensive capabilities with subpar teammates. And if he is on a slump, he can put on the 3rd line and use his physical ability to make an impact and gain confidence, something that Coho can't. Beating a dead horse? Maybe, but don't forget this is from Sabres fans point of view.
Caboose
As bad a year he's having, the Sabres are on pace to win only 13 games this season and may be the worst team in NHL history.
Herberts Vasiljevs
Beating a dead horse would be "OMGGGG GILLIS TRADED MA CODY!!!!!!!!!!!" Saying that Kassian is better than Hodgson is just preaching to the choir

Tangelos
Kassian's not doing all that much better to be fair. 4 points and a crap ton of penalty minutes on a much better team does not look all that great either

The other 8/9 of Kass's play you never even mentioned. He's probably been the best passer on our team outside of Hank. His subpar teammates can't finish, same story as last year. To say he's not doing all that better compared to Godgson is pretty idiotic, I just don't even want to go into it fully

Warhippy
Why are we doing this still? And if Buffalo keeps buying out players they'll never have the cap space to sign their young studs.
NightHawkSniper
Remember when people thought he would of helped us vs LA and that he was better than Kesler. Haha You also have to put into perspective the players surrounding Hodgson in Buffalo and compare that with who he would be playing with on the Canucks. Riviera82
Cody did quite well during his short stint in Vancouver. Today he plays for what is easily the worst team in the league and his numbers dont look so good, could those things be related? Everybody on the Sabres is having a bad year. Linden and Benning wouldn't have him on the team since he can't play defence.
