(Discussion)acquiring big bodied defenseman

The d core is definitely the most weak part of the team. I think if we want to improve it we need a pmd and a big body hard nosed puck clearing defenseman. Right now are d Cores size is average at best. Besides edler most of our d men are 6foot and 200 pounds. Look at teams like kings and the bruins. They all have big defenseman who push guys away from the net. How many times against the kings have we seen where it looks like we have an open net and a guy like Mitchell or Greene get a stick on it.

Right now there are many cheap options that shouldn't take more then a mid round pick and mid level prospect

A guy I want is grossmann 6 foot 4 230 pounds. Plays a very sound defensive game while being very physical. Could play in our top 4 if needed to. Him and Hamhuis be a very good shut down pairing. The only problem is that the flyers d core is worse then ours and they might not want to give him up

There are other guys on the flyers like Coburn and Shenn. Coburn is a nice big guy who brings a bit of an offensive game but could cost us a lot. And Shenn is young but is a bit of an pilon

I would also go after Mitchell if he wasn't so injury prone and take up that much cap

A cheaper guy we could go after is Brewer. They have a long jam of young nhl ready defenseman so they could be willing to give him up. He is also a Bc boy and could bring good leadership to our d core

Younger guys like

Dillion

Cowen

Sustr

Oleksiak

But they will cost a lot and some older guys like

McQuaid

Harrison

Phillipsdo you guys think we need a big d man and which one

For older Dman they may be a bit cheaper I wouldn't mind trying to get either Hejda @ 6'4 or Salvador @ 6'3. Better yet before I'd trade for a one of them how about see if we sign Jovanovski if we do sign him and we do fall out of the playoffs near the deadline trade him for a pick. But for younger Dman I wouldn't mind one of the following Myers, Staal, Aulie or Petry.

I'd go for Jay Harrison. Big, strong guy with wheels who has played top minutes in Carolina before (still top-4 now). He would make a good, versatile #7 D at worst (can both move the puck or play physically, though the latter should be his greatest strength).

Said it before and I'll say it again, hope J.B. gets Harrison and Riley Nash from the Canes. Good right-handed center with upside and solid top-6 D-man.

Sorry, I think Myers is a dud. You probably see him as a reclaimation project, tho'. If Miller doesn't vouch for him,..who would know better. Juice & Hammer played with him at the World Championships too,.. where he was the team's weakest link. I believe Myers is completely over-rated. Size ain't always - everything.
