brilac
My Macbook Air does that. I don't think it gets too hot though. I don't use it that much anymore ever since the cat sat on the screen and broke it even more - the part between the keyboard and the screen. SabreFan1
A laptop can get scorching hot for many different reasons. The biggest culprit for most laptops is something is blocking the flow of air. Get a can of compressed air and use it liberally on the ventilation openings. Don't spray the computer while it's still warm/hot because the air comes out very cold, and wait a couple of minutes after spraying it before you turn on your laptop again. Try it 3 times. If it still gets super hot after the third try then you probably have a busted cpu or video chip fan that needs replacing.
-AJ-
Might have to send it in to get the cooling system fixed. Mine has an issue with turning on, but it eventually turns on just before overheating. EDIT: Try SabreFan's idea with the compressed air first though, probably cheaper and quite possibly your issue, especially if you've had it for a while. Niloc009
it gets hot near the fan area and the battery Yes, that's what the pad is for. Have the pad sitting between the bottom of the laptop and your desk/lap/whatever and it should solve most of the heat problems. Without seeing the computer, it sounds to me like your laptop fans aren't promoting enough airflow, and the cooling pad should help with that.
