On Van's Gt'ing, mid-Nov (discussion)

Since it's a slow stretch for a couple days, wanted to hear opinions on this topic. Miller's numbers have declined somewhat, after a couple rough outings...

11-3 GAA-2.65 ..SV%-.902

Don't think Eddie's numbers are worth analysis, until he's had more work(greater sample size).

In RM's case, is he still adjusting to the west coast grind(as a starter)? Has his play shown signs of fatigue, or were the LA/Ariz games simply poor team performances?

Should Lack get more starts(try to get him rolling too?), or should we continue with a similar pattern?

What's ideal, if they both stay healthy? 50/30 ratio..60/20..something else?

Appreciate any insights on our gt's performances, up 'til now...

While I agree that it's a bit premature to assess Eddie's numbers at this stage, I am not worried about Miller after seeing some less than ideal performances. I still remember how Miller stole 2 points for us in SJ on our most recent road trip, and the team seems to be confident in him. It's early, he's a pro, and I'm sure there is going to be some bad nights here and there...but I for one support him fully, and hope he takes us on a deep playoff run!

Imo Miller has been great and has been a key contributor in wins if even solely wining us a couple or "stealing games"....the game in sj comes to mind immediately...what I like most about him is his calm on ice demeanor - sorely missed the last couple years....im sure hes quietly and quickly establishing himself as a leader in the room.

I would have though wed see more of Lack but its still early

I think on the nights when the rest of the team doesn't show up to play it's 6 to 5 and pick 'em whether or not the goalie can make the big saves as often as needed to keep the game winnable, and even then it's up to the team to put us ahead. When that doesn't happen, and it's happened a few times already this season... the goalie is the easy target. For that reason I am not too worried about Miller. I think he's shown enough that over a full season or three, he'll provide us with solid goal-tending at worst, and be the calm and (when needed) game-saving goalie more often that not.

I think Lack should fall into a similar category too, but in all honesty it's hard to say too much without seeing him in more games where he stands a chance. It seems like right now he's missing whatever it takes to steal games, whether that's confidence or tools I have no idea - but it'd like to think by Christmas with a few more starts under his belt, he's widely viewed as a reliable backup again. It'd be nice to see him get 25-30 starts.

I'm a little surprised we haven't seen Eddie that much tbh but full confidence in Miller. I hope we don't ride him too hard though, long ways to go yet.

IIRC after the first goal in the AZ game, he stood on his head long enough that we should have got something together, ~a full period. Never happened - awful Hanzal/TO/ref goal, fall apart 9 seconds later goal, game over. In general, even if he lets in a softie or team breaks down, he can keep it tight long enough for us to regroup and get it going again.

Still I'd like to see Eddie more.

Miller IMO hasn't been good enough. His save % and GAA aren't exactly spectacular, and his save % is among the worst of all goalies that have played at least 10 games this season. He may have 11 wins, but he's been pulled 3 times already this season, and in his last 3 starts he has been pretty crappy.

I've got confidence in him though. He'll bounce back.

From what I've seen, Ryan has been good when it's mattered. He's made the saves that he should be making. Obviously he had a few bad games, but that's expected. The percentage of these bad games should decline as he gets used to the team and the team plays better in front of him.

Most important to me is that he's made huge saves when games have been on the line. He's need a major reason why we have won so many one goal games.

Also for lack. I know he had a tough start but I'm not worried. I don't blame him for the Tampa game at all and he was terrific vs the ducks.

Here's to more wins!

3.40 and ..896 is amongst the league's worst stats.

53rd out of 66 NHL goalies in save %.

57th out of 66 NHL goalies in GAA.

If you think Miller's stats are crappy (while leading the league in wins) one has to wonder where this team would be if JB had not set adrift Garrison and his salary to attain an elite goalie.

Didn't see the LA game but I seen the Arizona game and only one goal I'd say was Miller's fault. Our team defence is hit and miss this season. There are games where we look like one of the leagues best, and games where we look no better than Edmonton or Buffalo.

imo our defense has been crap all season. all our D suck except for Tanev. thankfully our offence has been able to win us some games. but if we go into a scoring slump we are screwed.we can book a ticket in line for the mcdavid sweepstakes

I'm not concerned with his numbers or his play so far, but if the Canucks are going to succeed by playing 4 lines and not burning out the Sedins, it seems counterintuitive to make the playoffs using up one goalie.

Miller played 58 games last year and had a tough playoff.

would certainly like to see him fresh in the playoffs.
