[Article] New Canucks saving money on taxes

Interesting read. Everyone always thinks that players hate playing in Canada because of the taxes, but a few of our new players are actually saving money playing here.

Sbisa sees the biggest savings with around 200k less in taxes.

While Kesler on the other hand will pay around 400k more in taxes...

Read that earlier... Wouldn't call it interesting or news.

They'll spend what they save on higher cost of living in Vancouver

Never called it news. And if you're not interested, why comment?

Cost of living is a minor expense when these guys make what they do. Not to mention, a good investment in Vancouver will easily allow them to recoup their money, and then some.

who cares they make to much money anyway 5-10 mill a yr to skate around one a sheet of ice while people are starving is absolutely absurd i actually am not sure why i even support such absurdity

Players in the NHL represent .0000001% of the population of the world.

Any time a person has a skill that allows them to have a career in that percentile, they're going to get paid big money for it. Whether it's right or wrong, that's just the way it goes.

On the bright side, NHL players are very generous with their time and money, and alot of money gets put into worthy charities.

Well, I guess if you enjoy watching hockey at a level as high as it's played today then you should support it. As nice as it is to imagine that players play the game because they love it, money is a sweet, sweet incentive.

Pretty misleading article since they don't factor in the implications of earning income in other jurisdictions. I've prepared tax returns for NHLers and it more or less evens out at the end of the day.

For example, lets say the Canucks play in California 10/82 games a year. Each Canuck will need to pay US and California state tax on 10/82 of their income. So it is not nearly as big of a savings as described in the article.

An eggplant sized run-on sentence without a period. Nice.

You're right. You should support your grammar first.

Hockey players are poor athletes compared to other sports. Look at what Baseball, football, basketball and Soccer player make.

Actor and Actresses make tons of cash from Hollywood.

Hockey players abuse their bodies for 10-20 years and tend to struggle after a career with old injuries, concussions etc. They need something to cushion the retirement.

So it's more of a Vancouver/BC thing than it is a Canada thing? If so, that's pretty sweet. That gives the Canucks a leg up over all of the other Canadian teams. It also makes Vancouver more attractive than a few American teams as well. Although with the tax rates in California, I'm not exactly shocked that players pay more in Anaheim. Once L.A. eventually loses it's Stanley Cup luster in a few years, they'll probably suffer the same stigma.
