hatedkid666
18 games in and Schneider has started in all 18 of Devils games. Backup goalie Scott Clemmensen has only played in relief for Schneider. He is also supposed to start tonight in Winnipeg. So what gives? I always thought Clemmensen was a solid backup? And it's not like they are fighting for a playoff spot, it's still early in the season. So does anyone know have any hypothesis on why they would start him for 19 straight games? Aladeen
They want the best chance to win those 19 straight games? edit: also I believe that a certain number of games was guaranteed to Schneider when he re-signed with NJ
2% milk
To see if he can carry the team like Kipper did in Calgary is mine guess.
2SKATES1STICK
going for 82!
-Vintage Canuck-
Pretty surprising considering the Devils have played in four back-to-back games already this season. You would think Clemmensen would at least get a game or two in those back-to-back games.
poetica
They're definitely in danger of burning him out at this pace. I've heard that he did demand a guaranteed number of starts in his contract, but I find it hard to believe he didn't want to have a backup start any... Clemmensen was the backup but I guess they weren't impressed with his 2 partial game efforts. Not surprising being that he allowed 4 goals on 17 shots over those 2 games. Of course, the team probably wasn't great either game either... The backup now, though, seems to be Keith Kinkaid as he went in in relief of Schneider when he was pulled the last 2 times. Of course it's a tiny sample, but so far he's fared better, allowing only 1 goal on 11 shots. He has only one other partial game for NHL experience, but at some point they're going to have to give him a try. Otherwise, they might find themselves depending on a goalie who's never started an NHL game after Schneider gets hurt because he's physically exhausted. If they aren't happy with him either they might want to hurry up and do some shopping for a usable backup!
Grapefruits
With all the back to backs and the compressed schedule this year, they're going to kill Schneider if this continues.
Tre Mac
Must be nice to sleep in your own bed for 2/3 the schedule.
CALGARY!
Probably just wanna see what hes made of. See if he can carry a Brodeur type load or if they need to go shopping for another goalie so they can split the season up more evenly.
Sneezy
Making up for lost time...four full 82 game seasons and one 48 game season. That's 376 potential starts and he's been in 151 of those games over that time frame (161 appearances in total, including when he was he was brought up for a few short stints prior to 2010-2011. Schneider is 28 years old. His time is now. He probably wants the net every single game.
Baka
Schneider isn't playing at a level that justifies it but Clemmensen is guaranteed ... so maybe that's why. I honestly dk why Clemmensen is still in the NHL.
apollo
They want the best chance to win those 19 straight games? edit: also I believe that a certain number of games was guaranteed to Schneider when he re-signed with NJ I know they gave him a verbal guarantee... But 82 games? Seems a little too much. But you never know what's said behind closed doors and maybe Cory is fit to play 82. Either way, like I've preached for years; Cory is not the goalie his stats have shown the past. This is the first year he's getting a full starters load and his stats reflect it. He's a good goalie, but surely isn't the Lord some have thought him out to be.

UFCanuck
Schneider was talking about this to the New Jersey media a week ago. Obviously he would like a few games off to recover, but he said he has to trust the coaches on this.
