Nuxfanabroad
Recent outburst from the bottom-dwellers(Buff, Car), so Edm's almost in their familiar spot. Some teams are climbing from last season, notably a # of Cdn entries. Flip-side are the underachievers thus far. Quick list of teams that are regressing, rather dramatically/surprisingly: West: SJ, Col, Minny, Dall. East: NYR, Philly, CBJ(these three all started slowly, last season) Questions about these seven clubs: 1-Were any of these simply pretenders last yr, & bound to keep falling? 2-Will any of these teams accept a descent? Trade current talent for more picks, & chase a higher 2015 1st round choice? 3-Are these teams mostly just victims of a rash of injuries, or shoddy gting? 4-Of this list, is SJ or Philly more likely to sell strong pieces(I see some similarity in their assets/situation)? 5-Lastly, should Van(JB) target any of these teams to get a proven vet, or top prospect?(IF said team tries to climb standings) Overall, I'd say there's a significant amount of overturn in the standings, dating back to last Mar/April~present . I think more GM's are choosing to compete NOW, or re-tool/rebuild ASAP, & try to avoid a middle-pick finish. edit-gram/punc.
hatedkid666
People overhyped Dallas. All they really have is a first line, shut that down then there isn't much left.

They gave Ana a pretty good run, last spring. I thought they were trending upwards, tbh...
CALGARY!
Dallas reminds me of the 07 Ottawa Senators. One line team. Although, for a one line team those 07 Sens came close to winning the cup.

That one line is producing pretty well. They really are a one line team and one line teams dont win games. Especially with that horrible looking defense. I have a wait and see attitude about Dallas, Gologosky seems to be getting his game back and I'm curious to see if they qualify for the playoffs. terrible.dee
Philly is kind of a mess, they just keep shuttling players in and out so quickly, it's hard to know what the core really is.

Nuxfanabroad
Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds. Couturier? Sure aren't getting it done, despite some impressive fwds, huh? Clock is ticking with Philly. Predicting they'll deal a top fwd to a team like Ariz, for help(a package) mostly based on D.

Well I'm calling it today:Here comes the big SELL-OFF. I think Philly's gonna' start dumping stock, for future investment. Also think the league would LOOOVE to see McDavid(or Eichel) wind up here. Foolish contracts won't hurt them so much(like LeCav), if they build young & low(ELC's) cap. Giroux, Simmonds & Voracek. What a haul of youth/picks they could acquire, if Hextall is this brave. Keep that lousy gt/D..go for a top pick!

Such a good group of forwards I think it would be foolish to break them up at this point, especially considering the Flyers are notorious for their poor starts. I say wait it out for them, bring in some or all fresh coaching staff, or trade on key forward for help on defence. They have such offensive talent they just need a system to put it together and effective.
The Lock
I think Philly's likely to rebound. They have enough talent to be able to do it and, as mentioned above, they tend to have slow starts. I actually predict SJ is down-trending. Everyone talks about the "big 3" in Cali but, even at the beginning of the season, I never really pictured SJ as being at the same caliber of LA or Anaheim. They are more of a "middle of the pack" team and will likely be battling with other teams such as Minny, Calgary (if they can keep things up), and other "middle" teams all season long. I think they'll be borderline with the playoffs if they even make it at all. I think Colorado will rebound a bit, but that team is really showing why you can't just get away with lots of offence. They're kind of similar to Edmonton in that regard this year really. Also, NYR seems to be moving up now since the original post of this thread. Classic slow start AV huh? Don't see Philly gettin' off lightly, this time around. Big reason being defense. I'd say quite a few teams have this problem. The rule changes(summer) are the key here. Chasing/diving(from behind) D are being penalized; & I hope the league maintains this adjustment. Teams with slower, sizeable, yet plodding D can't deal with this effectively. Also, if their fwds aren't def-conscientious, the problem gets exacerbated. Philly, Dallas, Col & perhaps SJ & Wash have likely been affected. Then their gt'ing haven't been able to bail out their shortcomings. Conversely many of the Cdn teams have likely benefitted from a more mobile D, despite losing out in the size dept..Ourselves, Cal, Winn, Mtl & TO all have some D who can really skate. So does the league back off, or will they maintain this new rule standard? NHL is notorious for employing two seasons(or 3?!) of standards, every fr**ken season. Nuxfanabroad
Of Minny, Dall & Col who is most likely to bounce back, & make a PO-attempt/dash? I put them in order of probability(IMO).
Brick Tamland
It's amazing no one thinks the of the Canucks. I had minimal expectations, even as a season ticket holder, but they exceeded mine for sure. I don't think we are a playoff team. I think JB has to move a young piece and a core cancer to get us over the hump. Possibly he rides it out and continues to wait for young drafted talent to grow. Either way, they have a plan and are executing it.

Master Mind
Of Minny, Dall & Col who is most likely to bounce back, & make a PO-attempt/dash? I put them in order of probability(IMO). I'd put them in that order too. I think the Wild will certainly replace the Jets, leaving us to battle with the other 2 for the final wildcard spot. Also in the East, I'd say Bruins and Jackets get in, Caps and Leafs drop out.
