Sixteen W's
Any problems seem to be addressed very quickly each time. Coach mentions scoring last game. Canucks respond with five goals against Edmonton 2 game losing streak early in the season. Canucks win 5 of the next 6 games. Miller's questionable early season play. Miller takes over the next several games with brilliant performances. Sedins and Vrbata cool down. Vrbata takes over team lead for goals and Sedins both back to point per game. Last season, the Canucks have had problems that were persistent throughout the season, and the way this team seems to respond makes games interesting and gives some hope for the retool. TheXFactor
Playoff contenders? Maybe. Cup contenders? Honestly doubt it. - Miller has had some stellar performances but i'm worried that once the season is done and if we make the playoffs then he might be too worn out to bail out the team. - Defense is way too shaky. Any high offense team will dance circles around our D right now unless the chemistry improves. - Vrbata is the only good player we have on the power play. We're going to have major problems against shutdown teams. Cases in point: LA and Nashville where we got destroyed. Only high D team we've beaten so far is STL and that's because Miller said F U to them. - 1st line is getting predictable: Pass to Vrbata. Hank being the center play maker is fine but Dank needs to start shooting more. A 1st line with one player doing like 90% of the shooting isn't going to get far in the playoffs. - Inconsistency... a problem that's plagued this franchise for who knows how long now. Of course that's not to say I won't hope for it...
Brewmaster12
Yeah cup contender, our defence and even miller didn't even play with full effort against the oilers and we still won
Junkyard Dog
We aren't cup contenders at all. Playoff contenders? Yes.
desiboynux4lifee*******
How to win the cup. 1. score on your powerplay 2. have solid goaltending. But in all seriousness i think LA is our new Chicago. If this team can play LA kings in a emotional series and win it somehow I think this team can surprise again. CanuckBoss
Acquire a legitimate 2nd line scorer Acquire a solid puck moving defenseman Then maybe we can be a cup contender
Master Mind
If we can make the playoffs, stay healthy, and get on a roll, then we could possibly make a playoff run. I think we'd need to get lucky, but it is possible.
StarGirl
I think we still need some more improvement... So far, I'm looking forward for us to get into the playoffs though! For the cup...Hopefully we can get there too.
supermanbieksa
Playoff contender, for sure. But this team are a couple of pieces away from being the best. But anything could happen in the playoffs, Devils went to the finals like three years ago, Panthers to the conference finals the same year. So we shouldn't rule anything out, even though it's unlikely.

Nuxfanabroad
'93 Habs. '02 & '06 Canes. '98 Wash... There've been a number of long-shots to make the final dance. Why can't it be us? We're around top-5, right now..Granted, it's so early. Meanwhile, our farm-boys are #1! Lots of reasons today for a little optimism, aren't there? NatureBoy
so can the Leafs and Sabres then...

Stranger things have happened and this team is probably quite a bit better than the '82 Canucks that made the finals. The thing is to remember it is a longshot. Some people seem to think Canucks are a Cup contender instead of a longshot.
Canuck Surfer
Just an off ball, but somewhat (?) legitimate question? Are some of our defensive woes just a reflection of playing a faster, more attacking game, taking more chances with more possessions going each way... (Without all of the puck skill and speed to tilt the ice a certain direction like we could in 2011??) If this is the case, just adding a cpl more skill players (Jensen or Shinkaruk, a PMD) might make us look really good both offensively and defensively again. Opponents do not score when we command the puck in their zone. Acquire a legitimate 2nd line scorer Acquire a solid puck moving defenseman Then maybe we can be a cup contender 1) Bonino? Call up Jensen or Shinkaruk?? Not that far on this one! 2) Fully agree. Have been beating that drum for 3 years now. 3) If one and two are solved, sure... alfstonker
Acquire a legitimate 2nd line scorer Acquire a solid puck moving defenseman Then maybe we can be a cup contender We seem to have been saying this since 2011. Hopefully JB is working on it. I think once Hammer and KB3 find their real form and Sbisa gets back to full fitness we will be a contender, however I still think we need a big 2nd line winger who can score goals. Van R maybe if the leafs goalie/D continues to fail.

Miller's questionable early season play. Miller takes over the next several games with brilliant performances, and now sits 48th in SV% and 43rd in GAA. Sedins and Vrbata cool down. Neversummer
Like the overwhelming majority of replies here ... playoff yes. Cup contender ... no. Getting in the playoffs will be a huge bounce back year and if Canucks can win a round or two, it will be something to build on. Let's face it, some nights Canucks win with smoke and mirrors. No way our present defense and goalie gets it done in playoff style hockey. I'm beginning to think that what you saw in Miller in St. Louis might be reality ... BigBonino21
Here we go again lol..... Last year, we all complained about how we were not scoring and it was boring..... This year, its only November and we can Score and are way more exciting to watch...i think we can all agree, other than a few petformances. Yes, we need to tighten up our D right now but im sure we, as fans would like to see us score goals and thats what we ae doing because of Open style and play. People blame Miller already as well, hes 12 - 3! A few bad games, i agree, however you are not suppose to stop what you cant see as well as deflections all the time. Everybody breathe and with a top 6 FW added and a D we will be a solid contender come April :-)
