Tom Sestito
Zack Kassian. for Simon Despres and a 4th round draft pick. Why do we do it? We're much deeper up front, need a young defenseman not only short term, but long term. Despres gives us size, puck movement, and the ability to play both sides. It's a fair hockey deal in my opinion.

Smashian Kassian
Meh, I don't really think Despres has the ability/potential to be anything special, Kassian does. I would want a young defenseman with high pedigree if we are trading Kassian, I would prefer someone like Gormley for example (just off the top of my head), but I would like to hold onto Kassian either way for the time being. Caboose
With Hamhuis out long term and Dupuis out long term this makes a whole ton of sense for both teams, IMO. Although Kassian isn't much of a player yet, if there is amywhere he can succeed its Pittsburgh, which may make Benning hesitant.

Tom Sestito
I would still trade Hansen for a defenseman lol. I've been saying to trade a forward for a defenseman since the start of the season. I just think we need a younger one who has potential, and Hansen can't net us that. Get out elvis. Toews
Despres has the potential to be a good top 4 defenseman. He wasn't given a fair shake when under Bylsma and has finally established himself as part of the the Pens defense now. He has formed a good pairing with Scuderi. The problem with the Penguins dealing him is that Martin and Ehrhoff are both UFAs at the end of the year, one of them I am guessing is surely going to walk. Bortuzzo deserves playing time and Maata Pouliot and Harrington are coming up as well. It will be interesting to see what the Penguins do with their blue line. I think this might something that will work for both teams. Not a bad trade proposal at all and better than the usual 4th liner for young talented player that we see on this forum. This is the type of move that sets a franchise back years. I guarantee you Kassian will be a dominant player.

I'm not knocking Kassian in any way, just looking for something that's beneficial for us and the other team.

Toews
This is not beneficial for us. Absolutely terrible. What's your reasoning for that other than Kassian is awesome and he is going to become a top player? He hasn't shown the consistency to become a top line player. At this point its a decent trade. Penguins will be hoping that he can become a top 6 player but if he doesn't he should be a decent 3rd line player. The Canucks will be hoping Despres can carry on progressing towards a top 4 spot on the blue line. You are forgetting that Despres is a young player as well and a former first round pick who has shown a lot of promise but hasn't gotten the opportunities due to a coach who was more interested in playing vets like Orpik over him. This is terrible because when Kassian inevitably pans out, hes going to be a 40-50 point player that is physical, intimidating, dominates along the boards, agitates and protects his team mates. This style of player is an extremely rare commodity and is incredibly valuable especially in the playoffs. I don't know if he'll be a top line winger but I can personally guarantee you he will be atleast a 2nd liner. The Canucks currently have a hole their defense, yes. That doesn't mean you trade your best young forward for a defensemen. If we made this trade we would have the softest forward group in the league. Oh yeah, if Kassian doesn't pan out he could "maybe" be a decent third liner? Well he's already an above average third liner, so there's that... Yes, the defensive 6'5 defenseman who can play both sides and moves the puck extremely well obviously doesn't have those same traits. He also fights. Extremely rare as well. He's been excellent this season, and he's playing on their 3rd pairing with the pylon that is Scuderi.

Pimp C
Where did I say this? Sorry you didn't say maybe but you say "should" be a third liner. It sounded as though you thought theres a chances that he might not be a 3rd liner at least.
