danjr
Henrik (863) is closing in on former team-mate and Canucks alumni Markus Naslund (869). In 6 points he will tie his Swedish hometown friend for 5th all time for Swedish born NHL players. 7 points to take that spot over for himself. Nearly 1 season faster than Naslund achieved it. 21 points will have him surpass an all time great Swede none other than Peter Forsberg (885). What is quite astonishing is how few games it took Peter a mere 708. It will be a far stretch to supersede any of the top three players, Lidstrom (1142), Alfredsson (1157) and another former team-mate Sundin with (1349). Daniel if things go well could slip into Henriks former 6th on that list with 32 needed to pass Tomas Sandstrom (856) and then 13 more to nip Markus Naslund. As a part Swedish myself I would love for them to sit 4th and 5th on that list with 1000 games played and 1000 points each also. A couple more season and I am sure it will happen. Mind you that Zetterberg creature is closing in fast 781 games 739 points. Hope you enjoyed the facts.

DownUndaCanuck
Incredible to think that Sundin has almost twice as many points as Henrik and almost more than both Sedins combined but he had a hell of a career. I'd like to see the twins surpass the 1000 point mark within a couple of years but doubt they'll reach Lidstrom's numbers.

apollo
If things go well both players may over take 2nd and 3rd overall in Swedish players. I'm averaging 300 points until they reach 39. Hope they can play till 42 though Sedins are my religion.

He only needs to average around 70 for the next 4 years. I think it's doable by the time this contract ends. If not, maybe a season or two after. I'd like to see the twins surpass the 1000 point mark within a couple of years but doubt they'll reach Lidstrom's numbers. Sundin's best years were pre dead puck era and he played with some decent line mates where as the twins grew up in the league in some of the lowest scoring years the league had to offer as well as a couple of lockouts. Any time I consider any player who broke into the league in 93 or later I try to imagine what their points totals would have looked like without those lockouts. Twins lost a full season + as well say an additional 65+ points or more. Amazing to know the're going to retire canucks, even better knowing both should do it with better than 1100 points

danjr
In my opinion, watching hockey for 30+ years Milestones is reserved for 1000 games, points, 500 goals. Surpassing other players I consider stepping stones. Though since the nineties they consider milestones as like every 100 points.

A stepping stone is something that enables you to make a leap in your career, It has nothing to do with achievements. avelanch is right, the term you are looking for is definitely milestones. I think it's doable by the time this contract ends. If not, maybe a season or two after.I like that thinking. With the diligence the Sedins have with respect to their fitness and obvious commitment to the game, it' hard to imagine that one Sedin wouldn't get to Mats level. Not rebuilding while their playing is most important, and it seems like we won't have to.Great facts OP and very nice perspective appollo. Mathew Barzal
He just needs a Cup. I know it'll probably destroy our future but I hope Benning decides to go all in one year. While the Sedins are still somewhat useful.
danjr
All I need to say is go to NHL.com Select stats. Select Milestones. You do not see any references whatsoever to people passing numbers that are not divisible by 100, Thanks though.
