Trading McDAVID(discussion/proposal)

Recommended Posts

Yeah, it's crazy. However, worried for the kid, if he ends up stuck near the arctic. Also hoping to prompt discussion on a slow hockey day.

Let's assume a couple points, which are quite possible: Edm winds up with the #1 selection; CBJ with the #8(mostly due to their injuries, & slow start).

League would love McDavid in a US market; Edm acquiese, as they accept McDavid likely doesn't wanna' be stuck there, as their ballyhooed 'saviour'. A sizeable package could turn their fortunes even more quickly. Lastly, the Coilers have had their share of HHOF vintage stars..they just want a legitimate team, for once...

Therefore: McDavid, Pouliot, Nikitin(8.5 cap-dump/these two add-ins)

CBJ sends:

Dubinsky(signed long-term, a definite need)

Wennberg (stylish kid adds to C depth)

Ryan Murray(Alta boy, ends debate they should have chosen him 2 yrs back)

Dalton Prout(grit on back end)

2015 #8 overall selection

2016 2nd rounder(change to 1st, if CBJ makes final four in 2016 PO's)

The cap for these top players is almost equal, with many ELC's...

Is it CRAZY to deal a potential Crosby? Or does this package justify the fact?

Then why would they let Edmonton win the lottery? Remember, everything is a conspiracy

The NHL wont let McDavid end up in edmonton

This.

And, even if the Oil were to have #1 overall, there's no way they trade it. Would you trade away Crosby? No, same here. Of all the 1st overall selections/top picks Edmonton has had, this is not the one they trade.

If they get McDavid, they're set with him and RNH down the middle as their top 2 centres for 10+ years. Keep Hall. Trade Yakupov/maybe even Eberle for defensive help and maybe a goalie if they can.

To be honest if I was the GM in Oil Town I would have to seriously consider that deal, given the quality assets involved (8th overall is still pretty good, Dubi for 2nd C, Murray is strong defensively, Wennberg`s good enough to play now, Prout is alright). At the same time though, I`m not sure why the Oil wouldn`t just move Draisaitl, Yak, Eberle, etc. and just build with the pieces they get back (OR do both).

Maybe if the Oil can get defenders for Yak and Leon then I may do this deal if I`m Edmonton. 1st and Perron for that package and Anisimov (including the rumored deal)

Hall - Nuge - ______ (Keep or trade Ebbs, I`m indifferent, but if he`s moved he will bring back good value)

________ - Dubinsky - Purcell
Wennberg - Anisimov - ______
Hendricks - Gordon - Joensuu

Trade: Leon, Ebbs, Yak, Perron, Nikitin, McDavid, Pouliot.

I don`t know the defense but that looks like a decent return already. Adding Murray and Prout to Schultz, Fayne, Ference, Petry and (Klefbom or Marincin) looks decent, plus in a deep draft the 8th should still have good value. Maybe they`d further consolidate to get better defenders, but that`s already a strong-looking group.

Phil, appreciate someone actually considering the notion. Admittedly, I've seen little(to nothing) of these CBJ prospects, so I don't profess to know accurate value. Wondering if Edm should demand a Jenner/Atkinson add-in, to make it 7 pieces, not 6?

Best comparable to dealing a stud like this, would prob be back a quarter-century(the Lindros debacle),which is why I find it interesting value for speculation-we all know the windfall that deal entailed.

Edm might learn a thing or two from old Nords' stories...

CBJ package for McDavid must start with Ryan Johansen or Bobrovsky
