Canadiens sign forward Brendan Gallagher to a six-year contract extension:

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Saturday a six-year contract extension for forward Brendan Gallagher (2015-16 to 2020-21).

In 24 games with the Canadiens in 2014-15, Gallagher has recorded 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists), 67 shots on goal and 33 penalty minutes. The 5’09’’ and 182 lbs forward displays a +2 differential, while averaging 15:59 of ice time per game.

Gallagher, 22, has tallied 81 points (39 goals, 42 helpers) in 149 career regular-season games since his NHL debut in 2012-13. He has scored 11 powerplay goals and four winning goals, while maintaining a +16 differential. Gallagher has collected 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists) in 22 career playoff contests.

A native of Edmonton, Gallagher was drafted in the fifth round, 147th overall by the Canadiens at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 2012-13.

@renlavoietva:

Brendan Gallagher contract extension. 6 years / 3.75 AAV #canadiens #tvasports

Excellent signing. Wow, steal of a deal.

Gallagher is all heart all determination all the time. Team rallied behind his play. 2 years from now (heck probably even after this year!), this will look like a big time bargain.

I'll never forgive Gillis and the scouting department for not drafting him.

Fan favourite in our own backyard, well over a point per game in his draft year, and still available in the 5th round. I just don't understand how they missed him.

You're talking like he was a sure 1st rounder. He was a 5th round pick and every team in the league passed on him smh..

No. I'm talking like it was ridiculous we didn't take a flyer on him in the 4th or 5th round.

The scouts should have been able to pick out that he had 4th or 5th round talent based off of his exposure in this city.

Hindsight is 20/20 yes, but at the time I was mad when me didn't pick him in the 4th, let alone the 5th. When he went two spots after our 5th rounder (Adam Polasek...great) I was furious.

As should all the other teams in the league.

But yea, wouldn't be the first time the scouting team missed a sure player.

Sorry, but it's different missing out on a talent that plays in the our own city and had been generating major buzz all season, compared to some player who plays halfway across the country or halfway across the world.

Not to mention the fact we even had a prospect on the Giants that year, so I'm sure there was attention being paid to the team.

Based off of the opportunity we had to watch Gallagher and see him play, it boggles the mind to think that our scouts did not think he was worth a 5th.

His skill level was never doubted. The reason he was passed over 146 times was the fact that he was 5'8 170 lbs.
