-Vintage Canuck-
Wild signs Marco Scandella to a five-year contract extension: Fresh on the heels of scoring an overtime goal last night in Dallas, defenseman Marco Scandella will have another reason to smile this evening. The Wild has signed the blueliner to a five-year contract extension through the 2019-20 campaign. “Marco has shown tremendous improvement in his career and is one of the best young, two-way defensemen in the NHL,” said Wild GM Chuck Fletcher. “He is a hard-working, energetic player who is just scratching the surface of his potential in the NHL.” Scandella, 24, has scored eight points (5-3=8), including three game-winning goals, a plus-7 rating and 32 penalty minutes (PIM) in 20 games with Minnesota this season. The 6-foot-2, 217-pound native of Montreal, Que., recorded the game-winning goal in the Wild’s 5-4 overtime win Friday night in Dallas. He leads NHL defensemen in game-winning goals and ranks tied for sixth in goals. Scandella leads Minnesota in game-winning goals and PIM, is third in blocked shots, fourth in hits and his five goals this season is a new career high. He has tallied 40 points (12-28=40) and 77 PIM in 185 games during five seasons with the Wild. Scandella was selected by Minnesota in the second round (55th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. http://wild.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=741504

SabreFan1
Since Vanek has a whole 2 goals, they need to sign/keep somebody who can score them. Even if it's a defenceman.

canuktravella
3 works but he has no offensive talent. just defensive and good skating not worth
William_Clarkson
3 works but he has no offensive talent. just defensive and good skating not worth 4 He's a defenseman, his main job is to prevent goals and lead the breakout, both of which he does better than most NHL defenseman which alone makes him worth $4M (in my opinion). Scandela can score. Tanev isn't particularly good at that. If this is the bar then Tanev should get 3.25 rather than 4.

I don't know much about Scandella, but I assume Tanev takes on tougher matchups and is better defensively.

Tanev will definetly get in the $3.5-$4 million range IMHO. He's earned a big boy contract.
Brad Marchand
I don't know much about Scandella, but I assume Tanev takes on tougher matchups and is better defensively. Scandella gets easier matchups because he has the benefit of playing behind Suter while Tanev has to play top-pairing minutes. Both are putting up good possession numbers, though. Tanev is way better defensively. Overall factoring in both offense and defense, Tanev is just flat out the superior defensemen.

Similar, but much bigger Karl Alzner who scores at a similar clip to Tanev gets $2.8 mill...
