Nuxfanabroad
They seem mired in the middle-ground, & continually saddled with mediocre 'tending. I don't know a tonne of their prospects, & would appreciate any input/insight on that. Just feel there could be a good opportunity here. Like our squad, they've changed up mgt/coaching, & probably want to set out with a better direction. There's pressure of market expectations, with them having one of the biggest stars in the game. Impatience might be turning up the heat to deal?.. -Possible to pry away Alzner? Is Orlov still considered a viable PMD? (as we seem to be looking more towards Russkies)... -Would Lack, + a middling prospect be enough to help shore up our D-deficiency? Does anyone see a possible match with these two squads? Nuxfanabroad
maybe markstrom and mattias for alzner Sounds decent. I wonder if that would get'er done? Basically, becomes Lu for the local-kid, D-man then..
ForsbergTheGreat
They likely don't want someone like Lack, if they were to get a goalie it would be someone a little more established, Holtby is a decent tender and someone like Lack isn't necessarily a upgrade.. None of there D really know how to play well defensively at least they haven't played well as of late. A lot of standing around watching the puck rather than the man. It doesn't help that Orlov has been out for so long. Possibly a 3 way deal could be made with a non playoff team that may think about getting rid of a veteran goalie. Smith? Ward? Maybe SJ has gives up on Niemi when Stalock gets healthy again.

I'm guessing a number of these middling teams will entertain notions of a sell-off. No GM wants middle-ground this year, thus the weakest 10/12 franchises join a spiral-race to the sewer. All these teams seem weak at D. So many offensive pieces wil be put to market. A glut of these offensive pieces could lead to lowering prices. For contenders, this season could be the one to cheaply obtain a valued fwd-sniper, at reasonable cost.
Phil_314
Here`s something I found interesting about the Caps: Kuznetsov is playing fourth line minutes for them and many Caps fans think that Barry Trotz is under-utilizing him. I don`t think he`s a fit for us but other teams (e.g. New Jersey, they could use some young forwards) could definitely be interested if Evgeny happens to want out or if other teams come a-knockin. $0.02. He hasn't been playing forth line minutes as of late, He's been on a line with Johansen and Brouwer just doesn't get the Special team play that his line mates get
Pimp C
maybe markstrom and mattias for alzner Wow.. that is an absolutely terrible offer. That's like a capital fan saying erskine and joel ward for Hamhuis. Thank god you're on a Canucks forum right now, and one where everyone is incredibly biased, so the only responses you'll have are "right on dude! solid deal! Maybe Washington throws in Burakovsky just for kicks!!!"

I kinda think that one of the roster + is moving this season. Lack/Markstrom and or one of Matthias/Hansen/Richardson in the forward group. Why not Orlov? Probably be comparable in cost or even cheaper than Alzner and while an LHD has some puck moving ability and is 4 years younger.

I think maybe if we offered stanton, hansen, and will acton to st. louis, they would give us pietrangelo. Then trade Sbisa, dorsett, and an 8th rounder for Kopitar. Canuck Surfer
Alner's MO is pretty much exactly like Tanev. Uber mobile, defensively sound D man who has close out speed, game smarts, a good first pass... but is missing any dynamic to his offensive game, does block shots and is accused of not being physical enough. But he's got a cpl years, double NHL games under his belt (368), dbl the points (see a trend here) and 30 lbs in weight on Tanev while signed to a $2.8 mill contract. You know, $1.something million cheaper than a lot of CDC geniuses think Tanev should be signed for? Tanev at 217 lbs! That is a legit NHL match up 3/4 D in every sense of the word. Originally a 5th overall pick in the 1st round and he plays 20 minutes a game. You might have better luck offering Tanev and Markstrom. Even then they would probably ask for Lack... He'd be a great pickup. But the real point is there is no real reason for The Caps to trade Alzner. Wash is in transition. They have young spark plug talents Burakovsky and Kuznetsov. Plus Kassian upgrade Tom Wilson who is still 20 by memory. As soon as those guys hit their stride they''ll be fine up front. Johanson has made it as well. They signed Orpik (meh) and Niskanen, have Green for the moment, Alzner and John Carlson who is a stud. Plus Orlov, but I think he is injured. Thats plenty of talent. But even new coach Trotz complains of lack of effort. If they cant make that work with Trotz (being their 3rd or 4th coach in the last 6 years; its time for a change in the core or leadership group. Thats not trading Alzner, its trading Backstrom for 3 or 4 young blue chip prospects. And if that dont work, then its let Ovi retire to the KHL and spend his $10 mill better.
