Samsung S4 vs iPhone 5s

Hi guys I'm thinking of getting a new phone for my wife and we are leaning towards getting the S4 but have been searching the web looking for real reviews and have found it difficult to find a reliable source. What are people's experiences here with the S4. We are more familiar with Apple products but there's a good deal for the S4 right now and the S5 and iPhone 6 are a little too much for our budget right now.

Thanks :)

dont let anyone convince you that one isn't a good phone. Its all preference imo. I owned an iphone but now I swear by android. I will give you a list of pros and cons that i see anyways.

IPhone pros

Longer battery life

Smaller

better/more accessories

Easily sync with itunes

IPhone cons

Smaller display

no external memory

limited customization

Galaxy pros

Large display

unlimited customization

external memory

Automatic wireless backups

unscreened apps

Galaxy cons

Atrocious battery life

Bulky

Not as user friendly as iphone

Anyone feel free to add to the lists. Ill think of more shortly.

I have a buddy that has a Galaxy and always talks about how it has great battery life. Odd.

I couldn't really complain about either phone OP, but I'd personally go with android.

Yeah the Galaxy series are known for their good battery life. You might want to check for rogue apps Goose.

Ahhh. I know what you mean then. I just upgraded from my S3 a week ago. The battery was pretty weak after two years of use. I didn't bother getting a replacement battery either. After the s3 they made bigger batteries in each new version.

I'll warn you against the S4 mini. It's horrible to text/type on, constantly hitting the key next to the one I wanted, I think it has bad parallax issues. Also, OP, putting sync as a pro for the Iphone? Syncing is the number reason I haven't considered going back to Iphone for even a moment since I got rid of my 3GS. Hate it.

I have the s4 mini and its great for me^ must be preference i guess

It's not like I have giant sausage fingers either, but it's still a struggle just to get in one word without a typo. And when I use my girlfriends HTC One I can type into it with not problems at all. Maybe my S4 mini is just a lemon.

I've had my S3 for a couple years. Still going strong. I get a full day of heavy use out of a single battery charge. It's the best phone I've ever had. I would never go with iPhone for a few reasons. I don't like syncing. I hate not being able to swap batteries. I don't like proprietary hardware. Everything is so overpriced.

I haven't had an S4 or S5, so I can't speak on them with any authority, but when my S3 eventually dies I'll probably keep going with the Galaxy line.

I cant say I've ever had an iphone, so I cant really compare... I will say this though, I've been using samsung phones since well before smartphone days (flip phones) and I have no complaints. 13 years + for me, and 13 + years for my wife, and we've had 2 phones in for service issues that were both covered under warranty so it never cost us anything... I am very happy with my S4 and so is my wife (purchased a few months ago) ... it does everything I want it to and more...

I would highly reccomend any Samsung product, but I cant really say what one is better, just that I'm happy with my S4.

I've had an iPhone 4 and galaxy s4.

I think I'm going to try a new one next time.

Don't listen to peoples opinions. They are mostly blinded by their fanboyism.

Do some online research in the form of specs at a glance, and maybe see if you can test them out in store or something.

My wife has the 5S and I have the S4. From what I can tell, from using both, there is little difference in speed, I think my S4 has a better camera, but both are good. I HATE!!!! the iPhone keyboard, which is why I chose the S4 to begin with. The drag typing on the S4 is awesome. The 5S has way better options for covers, but now the iPhone6 is out that will probably change. I don't really have a brand preference but I would choose the S4 again if I had to.

The one complaint I have on the S4 is the size. It stabs me in the groin when I get in my car if I leave it in my front pocket.

I don't think it's necessarily "fanboyism". It's personal preference. As far as specs go, android generally out performs it's apple counterpart, but it all boils down to os preference in the end. People generally go with what they're more comfortable using.

Ditto. Once in awhile, my battery would go from 100% to 50% in a matter of 10 minutes and I have it in my pocket. My battery would drain so fast... Sometimes my battery would last me about 10 hours or so and sometimes it would last me the entire day. Then again mine is about 2 years old and I just recently dropped and cracked the screen (it's not that bad of a crack) so maybe that's why my phone is effing up... I'm gonna upgrade to a Note 4 or 5 or whatever next year.

Lucky you. I wish my S3's battery life was as great as yours.
