TheMohammadman
From the CBC The official Saudi Press Agency says a Saudi man has stabbed a Canadian citizen while he shopped in a mall with his family in the country's oil-rich Eastern Province. The news agency, quoting a police spokesman, says the victim was transferred to a hospital Saturday afternoon. Police say they have arrested the Saudi man and are investigating the motive for the attack. The attack comes one week after a gunman shot a Danish citizen in his car in the capital, Riyadh. Al-Qaeda has attacked foreigners in Saudi Arabia in the past. The breakaway Islamic State in Iraq and Syria group has urged its supporters to launch attacks inside the kingdom Canada, Denmark and Saudi Arabia are members of the U.S.-led coalition conducting airstrikes against ISIS fighters. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/canadian-man-stabbed-in-saudi-arabia-report-says-1.2855256 I live literally 10 minutes away from the place that this happened. It happens in a place called Amwaj mall. This is where I go to buy electronics and groceries. I go there almost every few days. I pass by the place everyday. This is a small mall. This mall is on the other side of the road to the biggest mall in the eastern province. Common civilian place Its pretty sad what happened, but this article from the CBC is literally full of bull crap. Here is what actually happened: 1) A Canadian man working in Saudi Aramco was shopping in Amwaj mall. 2) A Saudi man, who had mental problems, came up to him and stabbed the man with a butchers knife. 3) The mall security did not intervene because they do not carry weapons and are basically just standing there for no reason. 4) A Jordanian man and a few other bystanders bravely intervened and stopped the Saudi man from further attacking the victim. 5) Within a few minutes police and ambulance arrived. The police arrested the suspect and rushed the Canadian man to the hospital. 6) The suspect has been detained and the victim is in the hospital (he survived) 7) Security has been tightened up allot, there is more police checkpoints now and more police cars driving around. Myths in the Article: The official Saudi Press Agency says a Saudi man has stabbed a Canadian citizen while he shopped in a mall with his family in the country's oil-rich Eastern Province. Incorrect, the victim was not with his family. There was partial video of what happened, that seems to have been taken down (I'll try to find it). Also his family received the news at home in the Rakkah Aramco Compound. This is crap. They make it sound like the suspect was associated to ISIS or something. When actually the incident was random and the suspect had mental problems (Known fact). There is no ISIS supporters/members here. The government is very strict on that issue. How do I know all this? 1- Saudi Aramco made a statement this morning about the incident. 2- Partial video and Local Arabic newspapers What happened was really unfortunate and I hope it never happens again (it is kind of scary knowing how close this happened). I just wanted to stay the truth and what actually happened, not the CBC version of it. Normally I don't always buy into the "western media biased thing" but this is just sheer stupidity on the CBC's part. If you read the comments on the original article, people are thinking that this is some kind of terrorist linked murder. When it was just a atrocious crime committed by a mentally ill person not linked to any group. I hope this kind of thing never happens again, for my own safety and the safety of the people in this city. PS: The following video talks a little about the city I live in, but it has some christian stuff in it for some reason.
Mr. Ambien
I think you're running a little wild with the ISIS thing, they simply refer to other issues in the Middle East Canadians are more familiar with. It doesn't say or even intimate ISIS is responsible for this. It says: Canada, Denmark and Saudi Arabia are members of the U.S.-led coalition conducting airstrikes against ISIS fighters. For your other claim about the family, I'll await the evidence you say you have. It seems a very short article that only briefly touches upon several things at once. pianoman13
OP I see what you are saying, how it is really misleading about ISIS. It seems the media like to try to throw that in whenever possible because then people will read it and buy into it. Thanks for the information! Yeah, it seems like CBC was trying to add some liberal interpretations of what they think they saw. The brave Jordanian and other bystanders won't make very good news. Reminds me of Tomorrow Never Dies, where bad news is GOOD NEWS.
otherwise
It wasn't the CBC that wrote the article it was the associated press. But I will agree that it is irresponsible to insinuate that this attack was motivated by some terror organization, if in fact it was just a guy with mental health problems. The Great 8
Yup it seems like another large media group in the west is trying to improve viewers and interest into a crime that really has no further meaning then what is intending. It's not necessary to bring ISIS into any sort of event that their involvement hasn't been confirmed yet. Same thing happen with the Ottawa shooting. Tragic event but all the American media assumed ISIS was involved without all the evidence in. I'm happy that the victim survived and hope that the other guy gets put someplace where he can't hurt others...

When our bozo Prime Minister comes out 5 hours after the attack calling it an ISIS inspired attack. You know where the narrative comes from. Pieced it all together in 5 hours. Think about that. Salmonberries
Good report TheMohammadman, we're fed a steady diet of anti-Middle Eastern propaganda over here to keep people afraid of the boogeyman and to justify further aggressive war making. TheMohammadman
Who vacations or moves to live in Saudi Arabia? There is no real places for tourism here besides the pilgrimage to Makkah or a visit to Medina. But for why they move here: - No Taxes - Free Housing for expats (and good houses too) - Free education for your children (American International School) - Cheaper living - Free car (depends on company and choice) - Halal Food (for Muslims) - They give planes tickets at least once a year back to your home country for your family. - Higher income for living in this region. You'd actually be really surprised to see how many expats live here, especially from North America/Europ, there are literally thousands. I don't know if you watched the video in the first post but the narrator mention Saudi Aramco. Aramco is basically a city inside a city. It is separated from the general society of Saudi Arabia. In this area foreigners can do what they wish and they even have their own rules. Also, there is even a mini-church in Aramco as well. What I live in (Compounds) are similar to Aramco, just much smaller. Most of the time people just go cross the bridge to Bahrain to enjoy their weekends. Mr. Ambien
In CBC's defense, I guess they carbon-copied the story from Associated Press. Every news website does that, too (there is no news websites which are remotely close to 100% original content), especially news aggregator Huff Post which is cited extremely often on this forum. This should be a non-event, except for people who look for reasons to bash CBC thinking this is the Canadian government or Harper's concoction.
