Thirty Players to Attend Training Camp Dec. 16-19 in Boston

USA Hockey unveiled today the 30 players selected to the preliminary roster for the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team. The final U.S. roster will be named by Dec. 24. Team USA will compete in the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26-Jan. 5, in Montreal, Quebec, and Toronto, Ontario.

"We're excited about the group of players that we're bringing to our camp in Boston," said Jim Johannson, general manager of the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team and assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. "The depth of our talent pool continues to make our job more difficult in getting to a camp roster and ultimately the final roster, and that's really a credit to the great job done at the grassroots level by coaches all across the country."

2015 U.S. NATIONAL JUNIOR TEAM ROSTER

Seven camp invitees were members of the 2014 U.S. National Junior Team, including forwards Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass./Boston University), Adam Erne (New Haven, Conn./Quebec Remparts) and Hudson Fasching (Apple Valley, Minn./University of Minnesota); defensemen Will Butcher (Sun Prairie, Wis./University of Denver), Ian McCoshen (Hudson, Wis./Boston College) and Steve Santini (Mahopac, N.Y./Boston College); and goaltender Thatcher Demko (San Diego, Calif./Boston College).

Additionally, nine invitees were members of the U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team that won gold at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship. The group includes forwards Eichel, Dylan Larkin (Waterford, Mich./University of Michigan), Auston Matthews (Scottsdale, Ariz./U.S. National Under-18 Team), Sonny Milano (Massapequa, N.Y./Plymouth Whalers) and Alex Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Boston College); defensemen Ryan Collins (Bloomfield, Minn./University of Minnesota), Jack Dougherty (Cottage Grove, Minn./University of Wisconsin) and Noah Hanifin (Norwood, Mass./Boston College); and goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic (Parma, Ohio/Plymouth Whalers).

The chosen players will attend training camp from Dec. 16-19 in Boston at Walter Brown Arena on the Boston University campus. The camp will culminate with a pre-tournament game against the BU Terriers on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. ET.

Following time in Boston, the U.S. will move to Kingston, Ontario, where it will continue preparations for the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. The U.S. will be based at the Rogers K-Rock Centre from Dec. 21-24 and in addition to practices, will play pre-tournament games against Germany (Dec. 21) and Sweden (Dec. 23).

Glad Cassels got the invite, many people thought he'd be left off because of the ohl suspension, but if he makes a case for himself at camp he'll find a spot on the team.

WOW....no DeBrincat.

Just about to turn 17 and leading the O in goals.

This is as bad as using skipping on Marner.

They already have two young phenom, Eichel and Matthews, as good as they are, this is still a 19yrs old tournament.

Many said Strome was overrated because of McDavid, but I think DeBrincat leach off McDavid more than Strome did.

Funny though, all three of their goalie got picked in the 2nd round last year. Nedejlkovic right after Demko at 37th.

all were second round picks too, and all would have been a better choice than the first goalie taken that draft (by calgary)... well maybe not Nedejkovic... he's basically on par with McDonald. Halverson and Demko were both better choices though.

Yeah, that pick floored me. He actually looked pretty solid when I saw him practicing here in Calgary but I don't think he has anywhere near the projected ceiling.

Minnesota first-rounder Alex Tuch of Boston College and University of Minnesota returnee Hudson Fasching, the Los Angeles King draftee whose NHL rights now belong to Buffalo, appear to be locks. Yale University's John Hayden, a Chicago Blackhawk prospect, and Vancouver Canuck prospect Cole Cassels of the Oshawa Generals, are strong contenders for spots. Cassels was recently suspended by the OHL for 10 games, which would make him ineligible to play in Team USA's first two games, but there has been talk of the OHL reducing his suspension to permit him to start the tourney, assuming he makes the team.

Sweet looking forward for this year's world juniors and hopefully Cassels gets his suspension lowered by a game at least so he could be participating in the tourny earlier. I wonder what can Cassels do being in the spotlight for one of the most watched tournament in Junior.

if he gets it reduce by one game he'd be available on the 20th, meaning he'd be able to get in all the pre-tourney exhibition games too. honestly i'd be surprised if they don't lower it by one game, it's just unfortunate that last game of the suspension is on the other side of the christmas break, 9 extra days for a single game.

Interesting that Bobby Mac put Cassels contending for a spot on the RW. Never really seen or heard Cassels playing the wing, pictured him as C only. However with Horvat, McCann probably ahead on the depth chart, RW would give us options.

Bob McKenzie Seems to say that the center line is almost a lock(Eichel-Matthews-Larkin-Compher). I know Eichel and Matthews are exceptionnal players, but would you really want to go in the tournament with an undrafted 18 years old and 17 years old as your top 2 centers? Kind of risky for a 19 years old tournament.

I think Cassels would be a perfect 2nd/3rd center. Two-way, mature, gritty center.
