[Report] Kings fined $100,000

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have information of what the thought process was for the Kings in this? Did they think they had found a loophole? Was this a gesture of defiance for the headache that the NHL put them through? I can't seem to figure it out. On the surface, letting him practice made absolutely no sense.

Standing behind their player who they believe is innocent perhaps? $100,000 is nothing to the Kings.

Agreed that $100,000 is chump change to the Kings, it just seems a little pointless to me. I think standing behind him when he has serious charges against, isn't the best idea (assuming of course that they aren't %100 sure of his innocence). I think it should be enough not to judge/condemn him until a final ruling has been made.

I am pretty sure he is innocent at least according to his wife. She says it was an accident. And whereas I know sometimes woman will say it was an accident for a variety of reason when it wasn't, I know someone who went through something almost identical to this and it was in fact an accident.

What benefits her from saying he is guilty? Seems more benefits if she says innocent

That, or perhaps the language barrier (since she speaks little English) led to a misunderstanding between the Voynovs and the police.

And if he is guilty, and she says he is guilty, and he goes to jail, the biggest benefit would be no longer being beaten. Maybe?

Los Angeles Kings statement:

“This was clearly a mistake on our part and we accept full responsibility. It is incumbent upon us to be more vigilant in managing this situation to ensure that Slava’s allowable training activities always remain separate from the team.”

KINGS FINED $100,000 FOR VIOLATING THE TERMS OF SLAVA VOYNOV’S SUSPENSION

NEW YORK (December 2, 2014) – The Los Angeles Kings have been fined

$100,000 for violating the terms of defenseman Slava Voynov’s suspension, the National Hockey League announced today.

Voynov skated with teammates today during a Club practice. Such activity is in direct contravention of the terms of the suspension levied Oct. 20, which permit Mr. Voynov to use club facilities and work with team personnel but prohibit his participation in any team-related functions or activities.

Ray Rice's wife defends him after this, so who knows what happened. Regardless, the Kings need to let it play out in the proper channels to avoid more fines.

I agree that's why I said sometimes women say it was just accidental or a misunderstanding even when its not. I am not defending Voynov or saying he is guilty or innocent I am only saying that it is possible he is innocent.

And no matter the circumstances having the victim say it was an accident, will always be better legally speaking then the victim being the one pressing charges.

So the Kings can essentially buy Voynov practice time with the team by taking the fine.

I think the result should be additional time added to the suspension - perhaps another week added to the suspension for the violation.

That might be an actual deterrent for violating the terms of a suspension - a fine, perhaps not so much.

I'm sure that if it were to happen again there would be a more severe punishment and that adding an extra week on a suspension that is indefinite is not the appropriate punishment. However I do belive that the NHL should increase their fines.

Doesn't matter if she said it was an accident if the evidence(visible injuries/verbal confession) indicate that a spousal battery occurred someone is going to jail in California.

On another note, that was completely idiotic from a PR point of view by the Kings to allow this "accidental practice" happen. With all the news in the press about Ray Rice not the brightest thing to do even if untentional.

And if he is guilty and sh3 says he is innocent and he doesn't go to jail, the biggest benefit would be money, giving her kid a good life and doubt Voynov would hurt her after this scare. Maybe?

Walsh declined to specify how she was injured. “It was not a punch or a hit that caused this. It was an incident that happened at the home and both Slava and Marta have characterized it as an accident,” he said.

he doesn't wish to specify because it would seem like spousal abuse if we knew what he did, plus her lawyer saying " she doesn't think Slava was trying to hurt her and doesn't think a crime was committed against her.” screams of battered wife syndrome. if he was completely innocent they would release what she said as to how she got injured that led to the arrest.
