Veteran goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov has joined the Anaheim Ducks for a tryout in hopes of landing an NHL contract.

With John Gibson currently on injured reserve with a lower body injury, the Ducks are looking for a backup to Frederik Andersen.

Bryzgalov was originally drafted by the Ducks in 2000 and started his NHL career with the team a year later.

The 34-year-old Bryzgalov has also had stops in Phoenix, Philadelphia, Edmonton and Minnesota.

Along the same lines, the St. Louis Blues signed Martin Brodeur on Tuesday to back up Jake Allen while Brian Elliott is on injured reserve.

Last year Ducks had this for goaltending depth: Hiller - Andersen - Fasth - Gibson. Now they are reduced to Bryz.

It's similar up front. They gutted a lot of their veteran depth to make way for the kids. Although they are quality prospects, and had decent starts, it's a long season, and many young guys have trouble maintaining their A-game once the adrenaline wears off and the vets have shaken off the rust. I expect as the season goes on, the Ducks are going to drop in the standings.
