A red-faced Corey Crawford addressed local media Wednesday to explain his curious “off-ice” lower-body injury, which will keep the Chicago Blackhawks goaltender out of uniform for two to three weeks.

“I was at a concert the other day and was on the way out and missed a step and I didn’t think it was that bad,” Crawford told Chicago reporters Wednesday. “I woke up the next day and it was worse than I thought.

“I’m pretty embarrassed about it, frustrated.”

Twitter speculation placed Crawford at a Rise Against show at Chicago’s House of Blues on Monday night. He declined comment when asked if alcohol was involved.

“I’m not getting into the details of when it was. I’m just focused on getting back,” Crawford said. “It’s a tough bounce for me and like I said, I feel pretty bad about it. I just want to be out there playing hockey.”

Crawford had been in fine form this season, posting a 12-5-1 record with a 1.87 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. He had made 14 consecutive starts.

Backup Antti Raanta will take Crawford’s spot in the crease against the St. Louis Blues Wednesday night, while Scott Darling has been called up from the AHL to serve as backup.

hes overrated, his backups should have no problem keeping pace.

Ahhhhh.....no. Crawford has been one of our most consistent players the past couple seasons. Without Crawford we lose to St Louis in the first round of the playoffs last year. Crawford has played very well this season, he keeps getting better.

Raanta is a bit of a question mark, he's good but I don't know if he can be a #1 yet. The last time Crawford was out Darling took the #1 spot, not Raanta.

I just noticed on yahoo fantasy he was placed as day to day.

Shouldn't he be suspended and have his cap count against the hawks for a non hockey related injury like Harding earlier this year?

In fact let's charge the hawks with all their draft picks.

Harding kicked a wall after arguing with a teammate, Crawford slipped on the stairs. I don't know where the official line gets drawn but I wouldn't suspend your #1 because the slipped in the stairs. But charging us with all out draft picks is fair, only if they are all given to Vancouver.

Hahahah all your draft picks are belong to us.

So it's the teams decision to suspend the player for off ice injury then? I wasn't sure on the rule.

Let's be honest, he was probably drunk and slipped. Either way though, darling and raanta should fill the void just fine for a few weeks
