-Vintage Canuck-
Swiss winger had seven points in 17 games this season: Last night, Damien Brunner recorded an assist in 11 minutes of action in New Jersey’s 5-3 win over Toronto. Today, he’s on waivers. The Devils placed Brunner on the wire Friday morning, this coming after he scored two goals and seven points in 17 games this season while averaging 15:09 TOI per game. The 28-year-old Swiss winger has been in and out of the Devils lineup this year, never seeming to fully earn the trust of head coach Peter DeBoer. It’s possible New Jersey was also expecting much more from Brunner after inking him to a two-year, $5 million contract last season — since joining the Devils he’s scored only scored 13 goals and 32 points in 77 games, failing to replicate the success he had with Detroit in his first NHL campaign. Brunner, you’ll recall, had 26 points in 44 contests during the lockout-shortened ’13 season, then proved to be one of the Red Wings’ most consistent scorers in the playoffs, going for five goals and nine points in 14 games. As mentioned above, Brunner’s in the last year of a deal that carries an average annual cap hit of $2.5M. While he’s a intriguing potential pickup because of his offensive ability, that cap hit could prevent teams from scooping him up. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/05/devils-waive-brunner/
RonMexico
Was this the guy that Gillis was trying to get one time? He scored a hat trick in his frist game and everyone thought we missed out on him?

johngould21
I thought Nonis wanted Fabian Brunstrom I think it was in the Gillis era that Brunstrom was the next Gretzky. He got the hatty in his first game, never to live up to anything from then on. You might be right though.
TOMapleLaughs
Latest Ville Leino. Y'know, people trumpet Detroit's supposedly great player development system, yet all they seem to be turning out lately is overrated, overpaid crap.
Mathew Barzal
Interesting, people on HF saying he doesn't play defence whatsoever but I'd be interested to see what he could do for our team.

G.K. Chesterton
Honestly, NJ just strikes me as a mess of a team anyways. They are the new Detroit, full of older veterans who have been tossed together (Jagr, Clowe, Ryder, Elias, Cammalleri, etc...).
Ossi Vaananen
Someone will pick him up. We must be pretty close to the bottom of the waiver wire now, even if he fell to us I don't think Benning would be interested, given the current chemistry on this team. I don't think it's player development, it's their systems that they really have down pat. Which is why so many fall flat after leaving the Red Wings. Y'know, people trumpet Detroit's supposedly great player development system, yet all they seem to be turning out lately is overrated, overpaid crap. Detroit didn't develop them, they were stars in Europe. Leino didn't even make a name for himself until he went to Philly.
Jägermeister
Latest Ville Leino. Y'know, people trumpet Detroit's supposedly great player development system, yet all they seem to be turning out lately is overrated, overpaid crap. However, none of those players turn into overrated, overpaid crap until AFTER they leave the Wings.
zombieksa
If more than one of our bottom 9 wingers were injured I'd think about it. Can't sit 2.5M in the press box but that said his play would work well with the transition game our team plays. We have Jensen, Gaunce, and Shinkaruk that all want to get a chance to play for the big club though so no dice. Rather see call ups.
TOMapleLaughs
However, none of those players turn into overrated, overpaid crap until AFTER they leave the Wings. It's interesting in this case though, considering NJ's system and player development is also quite good. What happened? Guy gets a payday and vanishes? Pathetic.
