Twins' Influence(team, league)

As an old analogue guy, with a fading memory, I'd like to bounce this off you sharp, young CDC'ers...

I think the twins have altered/changed plan of attack for many teams in the O-zone.

Swear I see more teams attempting to cycle, & wear down opposing D. Now, I've been away for a significant amount of time(almost 2 decades), but I don't recollect such a relentless cycling approach(league-wide), from say the early '90s...

Just as rival PP's started employing the 'slap-pass'(I've even heard commentators attribute this to the twins), I'd say opponents have been poring enviously over the twins' playbook.

Our farm, prospects & depth:

I don't know what they've instructed Travis Green to do, but I wonder if he's employing tactics from the twins' bag-o'tricks? I've heard(read here) the Comets are using a passing/cycling approach with great success. If we raise prospect-tandems together(Ctr-wing combos), could this be an organizational-aim?

Through constant training of the twins technique, perhaps we can get all our lines cycling very effectively, until opposing D are late-game-gassed? To some degree, I'd say the team is applying this theory already. Now imagine if you raise 8~10 prospects this way, & keep it going for a decade,+?

Henrik & Daniel's approach will leave a long-lasting effect towards our franchise's offensive strategy, that may linger even longer than Bure's high-octane forays, or Trev's complete-game style.

You're off your rocker nux but I'm having a Jaeg bomb for ya !!! wooo go nucks. :towel::canucks:

cycling is hundreds of years old and moving the puck around in the offensive zone in hockey has been around since the 20's.

C'mon DogB, the way the twins execute the cycle, is an art-form which they've patented exclusively. You can't tell me you've seen teams get hemmed in their zones for over a minute, before the twins started workin their magic?

If the Canucks can get their players to learn the Sedins cycle game that'll be great for the future. I really like the idea of developing our prospects as pairs/lines as opposed to separately. Finding and developing chemistry early on is a key factor to success imo.

Pearson, Toffoli and Vey were one of the best lines in the AHL until Pearson and Toffoli graduated the NHL and have now found success with Jeff Carter. Palat and Johnson last year moved up together from the AHL and were able to step in and help Tampa make the playoffs even without Stamkos for an extended period of time.

I agree.

No one does it the way they do it.

Other teams cycle, don't get me wrong. Even our other lines cycle at times but it's a different way of cycling. The way the twins have been doing it this year has been remarkable. I've never seen them control the play this well. Not in 2010, 11, or 12. They are physically and mentally peaking.

There's times I'm watchin'(mid-game) this dastardly duo weave their spell, & I'm mesmerized with that satisfied, perma-fry grin. You start realizing it's unique genius.. the likes of which hasn't(& won't) be seen again.

We've all seen our Orrs, Bossys, Great, Magnificent & anointed ones dominate a game..yet to see two blokes work synchronized this way? Individually they're likely just above-avg, relatively gifted stars. Yet as a duo, having developed this in-time synergy since their wee yrs, it's truly a sight to behold.

& the kicker is, off the ice they are such unassuming & generous class, no city has ever been prouder of their sporting stars.

In the past, I'd say there was more trying to score off the rush. Once in the opposing zone, feed it back to the point & storm the net for tips, rebounds & general mayhem.

Gretzky had that play where he'd fly into the O-zone, then slow down,up near the point(very high slot), allowing his wingers to approach the net(late passes & rebounds)..the jr coaches would nag & lecture, until they realized they were the students...

Go watch the NHL classics games on NHLN. Not seeing a lot of it.

The Sedins have taken it to a new level and I believe the trend is spreading.

I agree with the op. Whenever someone does something very successfully, others will notice the success try it to see if they also can be successful with it. As other posters have pointed out Sedins didn't invent cycling and others don't do it as well. However, and sorry for repeating myself, the Sedins have been extraordinarily successful over the years with the cycling game so it is natural for others to try it to see if it can be successful for them. It's similar to the way we saw more players try parking behind the net during the Gretzky era. It wasn't new, though Gretzky's level of success with it was. Others tried it, of course without Gretzky's level of success.

To my day, I will remain stunned by the core strength these 185 lbs dudes have to hold off guys 30 lbs and more their senior. On their back. So feisty! On their hip. Off their shoulder. Occasionally spinning. Sometimes cutting but usually just holding them off. And using faster hands to grab and win endless puck battles.

Allways still demure with their skills when you would think they would be exhausted holding these bastards off. Deft, thrifty and endlessly able to toss saucers through three guys between each other. Lord knows where they have the vision to find the other?

For all Jeremy Roenick hasn't given us, I'm pretty sure it was him, coining the term ''Sedinery" might be his greatest gift to hockey!

Masters of leverage!

They are so special...

But I don't think its exclusive to playing with each other. Burrows is a great player. But he is not a 30 goal scorer with Bonino. Nor was Anson Carter with anyone. I have no idea what Trent Klatt was? They make lots of players better. In 2010 Hank still ripped off 30 odd points and won the scoring title with bro missing a pile of the season.

Bure would cycle by himself. :) Ronning was pretty good at it too. The twins take it a step further as they "Know" where the other twin is all the time. Its like a sixth sense. Puck possession(cycling) has been a strategy by European players for a long time.
