TheRussianRocket.
@reporterchris: No hearing with @NHLPlayerSafety scheduled for #leafs Stephane Robidas following his elbow on #canucks Shawn Matthias. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/08/report-no-hearing-scheduled-for-robidas-after-matthias-hit/Toronto blueliner Stephane Robidas isnt scheduled for a disciplinary hearing following his high check on Vancouvers Shawn Matthias from Saturday night, per Sportsnet. The incident in question:http://youtu.be/1cxTY-tTm8w Robidas received an elbowing minor on the play. Matthias left the game for good following the hit and was subsequently held out of Vancouvers 4-3 OT loss to Ottawa on Sunday. Following the game, Robidas was remorseful for the elbow and said there was no malicious intent in his actions. I didnt mean to hurt the guy, he said, as per The Canadian Press. I just hope hes fine. They called (me) for elbowing. I didnt mean to hurt him, and I just hope hes OK. I try to play physical I dont try to hurt people, thats not what Im trying to do. The play happened fast and I tried to close on him. Its one of those where I just felt awful. Yea, ok NHL. 100% elbow to the head of our best player as of late which resulted in an injury and no hearing? What a load of crap. League has a big X on the back of the Canucks. Double standard and we're getting the shorter end of all these calls. If it's a Nucks player dishing out the elbow, minimum 2 games. Hypothetical, if this was Robidas on Crosby, minimum 4 game suspension. Bush league, hope Matthias recovers quickly.
YEGCanuck
This usual denial by players who raise their elbow and run against an opponents head, then claim there was no intent is getting really old. We can look forward to Robidas playing in Vancouver later this season.
Warhippy
That's a load of sh*t and everyone knows it. Even TSN called it a "Blatant Elbow to the Head" in their Ice Chips column. If even the Toronto Sports Network calls it an elbow.... The only thing more disturbing is how NOBODY stood up for Matthias in that,
Valentine
Can we get a 'Bush League' chant next time Bettman or any member of the DPS is in town?
sting
I'm glad you brought this up. Was shocked when this happened and that tool Glen Healy says after that the hit was "nothing". If it was nothing then we wouldn't have lost one of our current best forwards to a concussion idiot. Elbows to the head are never accidental! Robidas made a desperate punk play because Matthias was about to turnstile his old slow ass. If that hit was Sbisa on Kessel I wonder what the response would have been? The NHL needs to suspend Robidas and keep their eastern biases in check.

Tired of the whole "oooh the league hates us" bull. Bad calls happen, it's not some big anti-Vancouver conspiracy. Get over it.
nux4lyfe
Of course no hearing, The NHL is deaf, dumb and blind when it comes to Vancouver.

We all sink time and money into the NHL. I would like some competent refereeing personally.
Harvey Specter
"They called (me) for elbowing" So in short, as long as you serve the 2 minor, you can feel free to throw around your elbows and hit others in the head... Nice to know Robidas! Thanks for the tip*!*Only works when you are playing against the Canucks
RonMexico
Looks like a 2 min elbowing penalty to me.
spliced
What a load of poop. A clear elbow to the head that knocks a guy out for 2 games and no suspension?! The Wheel Of Justice indeed.
kilgore
Just like Steckel on Crosby was 4 games. Wait... Tired of the whole "oooh the league hates us" bull. Bad calls happen, it's not some big anti-Vancouver conspiracy. Get over it. Well, that's because the Steckel hit was the hit that prompted the rule change on head shots. There was no rule against the "accidental" head shot, which Crosby's was deemed. It wasn't until the 2013 rule book where they initiated Rule 48.1 (Illegal Check to the Head) used to read as follows: "A hit resulting in contact with an opponent's head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted." This wasn't even accidental. It was full on targeted head shot. Why you would be an apologist to the NHL not even enforcing their new rules is puzzling. Yes a penalty was called, but when an illegal hit results in injury, a suspension is almost automatic..........except if its on a Canuck.
apollo
Ummm I'm not surprised. The player that got hit in the heat in an attempt to injure (and was injured) had the letters Vancouver written on his chest. It's a shame that there's no suspension but I'm not surprised
bigbadcanucks
IMO, the Robidas' elbow to Matthias is equivalent to Hansen's elbow to Hossa. It's worthy of a review and a one game suspension at the very least. On a related subject, what's with these 5'10"/5'11" marginal NHL d-men...aka, Andrew Ference and Stephane Robidas (marginal, but making stupid amounts of money for what they provide...but then I realize it's the Oilers and Leafs paying these guys) taking liberties with our two biggest forwards? I like the discipline and restraint shown by our players in not retaliating on these cheap shots in the midst of the game. I'm sure numbers have been taken. Forsy
No hearing because Matthias is not a star. They didn't even need to reach for the Anti-Canadian team bias for this one.

If a Canucks player misses and he hits the air in front of his opponent, the league'll say that's a violation of player safety for obstructing his breathing. Seriously, that was a swinging elbow, Robidas was looking at where he would aim, and he clocked Shawn in the face. How does that go unpunished. The Department of Canucks Safety has decided to suspend Stephane Quintal for double standards and negligence towards player safety.
poetica
By the NHL's own standards: - Illegal play? YES (elbowing) - Avoidable head contact? YES - Injury caused? YES = Suspension....except when they don't want it to.

You mean when Hansen reached for the puck over Hossa's head and Hossa went down like a flake of dust? That elbow? Comparable to this???
Hunter_74
I'm still choked that Ribeiro didn't get suspended for his blatant elbow on Matthias at the beginning of November. Im still confused as to why Robidas doesn't have a hearing for targeting the head with an elbow, aaaannnddd injuring the player on the play. Comparable to this??? I suppose I should been clearer and stated that if Hansen's "elbow" was worthy of a hearing and suspension, so should Robidas' elbow on Matthias.
