TheRussianRocket.
http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/08/report-salary-cap-could-land-somewhere-between-72-million-and-74-million/Last week, we passed along word that the NHL still expected a healthy rise in the salary cap for the 2015-16 season. Today, via ESPNs Pierre LeBrun, well pass along word that said rise could lead to a ceiling of "somewhere between $72 million and $74 million, up from the current $69 million." That would be good news for teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, who have already made significant cap commitments for 2015-16, with players still left to sign. The potentially bad news for the Hawks is that, according to LeBrun, the current projection assumes there "isnt any significant change (downward) in the Canadian dollar between now and June 30," and the loonie continues to fall today as oil prices do the same. Solid news. For cap strapped teams like the Hawks & Bruins, it'll give them some breathing room but they'll still struggle. Teams with well managed cap (like us), this will be a huge plus. Earlier this week there was a report cap would stay at $69 mill but turns out it'll go up $3-$5 mill.

2SKATES1STICK
What the hell was the lockout for again? would be way into the $80m range otherwise and this means the league is growing. the lockout wasn't intended to limit league revenues
TOMapleLaughs
Heard this kind of step-up before last season. Lesson learned? Wouldn't plan for it.
mangosteens
So the salary floor will be anywhere between $56 and $58 million. At some point that number becomes unbearable for owners in the weak markets and we have another lockout or relocation.
Master Mind
Just in time to save the Hawks, who would have guessed? I hope we use the extra space wisely, and maybe bring in an upgrade to the defence.
CALGARY!
Whats Calgary gonna do, gonna have to offer McGrattan 4 mil per season to get to the cap floor haha.

This is welcomed news, especially with someone as hockey savvy as GMJB at the helm.
tas
a rising cap is only beneficial if there are worthwhile players available to spend the money on. the way things are going, in a few years the only players available on july 1 will be players nobody wants. everyone else in the league will be locked up long term. Derp...
Not many quality UFA's this year, but I hope we can keep Matthias and Richardson or turn them into assets this year. Both are probably due for a little raise depending on how the season goes.
wren223
Plan like the cap isn't going up, not matter what reports say. Then when the actual figures come out we don't get messed over. I've faith that Benning and crew are smart enough to keep the team in could cap shape. Heck, I'd be pleased if we could pull an Islanders and pick up to good players for next to nothing because the Hawks or someone next season can't keep them. DownUndaCanuck
Bummer, Chicago and Boston were about to be in serious cap trouble and would have had to give away some solid young players which I thought Vancouver could definitely benefit from. Boston's major issue will be to re-sign Smith (not doing too well this year, may only get 3M), Soderberg (may expect 3M), McQuaid (probably going to be let go or re-signed for 1.5M), Krug (will demand big bucks, around 4M) and Hamilton (5-6M long term easily, he's deserved it). They're right up against the cap right now and will probably have to let a few kids like Morrow to play next year to allow big contracts to Hamilton and Krug. Despite the increase, they can't keep all these guys. Hamilton is pretty much their replacement for Chara but we should make a play for Krug. Right handed, puck moving defence man. Would fit nicely with Edler or Hamhuis or Sbisa in our future top-4. Say Stanton and Jensen for Krug, leaves us with this solid defence in 3-5 years time (once Bieksa is gone and Hamhuis is nearly too): Edler - Tanev Sbisa - Krug Hamhuis - Corrado

Nuxfanabroad
What the hell was the lockout for again? Similar to Unicef for the Underdeveloped world..they're gunna cure poverty, ferGawdsakeseh?! Also, halting the game(CBA-ruckus) hadda' chance to cure you of this dreaded addiction..but here you are in the same darkened alley, looking to score. Never mind if the product has been cut down..still works(little buzz) when paired with nostalgia. Seems to me it's akin to free needles at the 'recovery centre'. Yet who am I to laugh at all us junkies? In my 'Perfect World', a good player makes about 10x a firefighter or school teacher.. but it's also a place where no one is a slave to $$$. Politicians are honest, with integrity; kids enjoy learning; people are open, caring & un-manipulative; true love can still flourish; the poor are taught to fish, not merely given fish; & the check is INDEED, in the mail... Canuck Surfer
Not many quality UFA's this year, but I hope we can keep Matthias and Richardson or turn them into assets this year. Both are probably due for a little raise depending on how the season goes. Nick Foligno will be a 28 year old UFA. Marty St Louis was scoring champ just 19 months ago and past MVP. A 1 yr deal for Jagr would be extremely interesting. I would love to sign Vermette or Glencross as solid middle guys. Jarrett Stoll is pure stud 3rd line center help to groom Bonino & Horvat and will be available unless they can trade Richards? I'd be happy to welcome back Santorelli. Richardson, Dorsett or Mathias also for that matter. Mike Fisher might bring the Green men out of retirement and bring both developments & country bars to East Broadway, Kingsway and main street. Danny Briere would also be a solid depth pick up. Ribeiro will get paid well again somewhere, probably Dallas. But to what we really need; On D there is def some guys still out there. Johnny Boychuck & Mike Green, both right handers are stud help right where we need it not pardoning the pun. Cody Franson is also a rightie, serviceable, big & can score where not perfect. I am plenty happy to welcome Ehrhoff back. I'd kick the tires on Zidlicky and have DEFINITE interest in Andrej Sekera who is just 28. Even if I had to move a left D elsewhere for these guys. Adam McQuaid would make great defensive depth. David Schlemko adequate and bring some skills to the table...

But Stanton is good depth. Nothing more. I wouldn't have a problem exposing him for an upgrade.
