Is Derek Dorsett our Chris Neil?

The recent scrum in Ottawa got me thinking...

These stats compare the two players at the same point in their career. This comparison is primarly between the players on a production and contribution level, not on a personal level. (We all know Neil has no class)

Of particular note:

-Neil has almost always had better linemates

-Dorsett is on pace for 28 points this season

-Neil (6'1, 215) and Dorsett (6'0, 192) are nearly the same size

-Dorsett's career PPG is .23, while Neil's is .27

-Dorsett's career PIM is 2.58 per game, while Neil's is 2.48 per game

Is Derek Dorsett our version of Chris Neil?

Re-sign next season?

Honestly I love Dorsett and all the things he brings to the team. But isn't his cap hit slightly too high?

Edit : I mean I want to keep him for sure and re sign. But maybe at 1 mill?

Dorsett's doing exactly what he's been asked for, No complaining here...

If he can get the 28 points, I wouldn't mind his contract. He's playing on the 4th line and getting close to 30 points, hitting, bringing energy, fighting and bringing leadership. That's a perfect 4th liner.

You might want to re-visit Neil's vital stats...6'1" 215 lbs. (source: The Hockey News).

Loved Dorsett's comments about Neil and his antics from yesterday's game.

Dorsett, IMO isn't going anywhere. He's a JB trade acquisition, and will most likely be signed sooner than later. Would rather have Dorsett than Neil, especially in today's NHL where speed is such a valuable asset to have. I'm a big fan of the tough middleweights like Dorsett.

Dorsett reminds me of Rick Rypien...probably why I like Dorsett as a Canuck so much. He's got Rypper's spirit in him.

I remember people complaining about letting go of Torres (I was one of them). For what he brings, I'd be happy with $2 million dollars. $1 million is less than/similar to what some of the rookies would make after (attainable) bonuses. I sure hope JB doesn't lowball Dorsette to $1 million dollar offer like MG did to Torres.

He'll get more than that on the open market for what he brings. I agree that Benning will try to extend him well before then, and at fair market value. Both he and Linden (before he even hired Benning) wanted him, and not just as a one-year rental.
