J.I.A.H.N
Not saying I have the answers, probably looking to find what you think, more so. If you take alook at the deadline cap space in capgeek, it become painfully clear who can not be traded this year, whether they have no trade clause or not. Not only do the trade clauses prevent teams from trading with the Canucks in most cases, but Contending teams are restricted by their own cap space. If the Canucks do plan on trading anyone.....it is truely only a select few that, that could be traded this year,,,,,,, Higgins.........$2,500,000............no trade clause......2 years left after this year Good Value for the money Hansen.........$2,500,000............no trade clause......3 years left after this year Good Value for the money Bonino..........$1,900,000............2 yrs left after this year Not going any where, unless it's an upgrade.........going no where Matthais........$1,750,000............UFA Just starting to fit in, depends how contract negoiations are going....I think he stays Kassian........ $1,750,000...........1 year left after this year I don't know, great trade asset, but would be selling low Dorsett..........$1,633,000...........UFA He is staying, unless the budget doesn't balance Richardsen...$1,500,000............UFA I think he is going...don't know for what, but he's valuable at playoff time Sbisa.............$2,175,000...........RFA No Takers, he is staying.........pay cut Tanev............$2,000,000...........RFA He will get a raise....Canucks can't aford to get rid of his....too valuable.......$3,500,000 Stanton...........$550,000.............RFA He will sign for $650,000 Lack..............$1,150,000............1 yr left after this year He stays and they trade Miller at 2017 trade deadline At the end of the day.....with the Cap going up to $73,000,000, the Canucks will attempt to move Higgins, Richardson and maybe Kassian What do you think? Baer.
Hard to say if Richie stays.. Sbisa will want a raise doesn't matter how bad he's been playing. Tanev will be more than 3.5m IMO
Warhippy
I think that while you've done your homework you further that hockey is a business and anyone can be moved at any time providing they waive their ntcs
ForsbergTheGreat
Trades can involve cap coming back. Bieska, Hansen, Burrows, All have NTC but can see being dealt, they are the type of players contending team could be calling Benning about. Even though moving them hurts the canucks chances this year, removing there long term cap hits and declining play (likely due to age). I would love to take advantage of some other teams upcoming UFA's that will likely not get resigned due to cap space issues.
zombieksa
18-10-2 Our record after 30 games. I don't think it is late enough to discuss being deadline sellers.
Gurn
I'd rather get new pieces for the Canucks now than at the deadline. It gives them time to settle in as a team before the playoffs. Conversely if you trade players for futures or picks it gives you a weaker team and a chance at a better draft slot for your own picks. Either way at this point in the season, the sooner the better. J.I.A.H.N
18-10-2 Our record after 30 games. I don't think it is late enough to discuss being deadline sellers. I get what you mean, but I understand the trade deadline is March 2, 2015. With all due respect, when do you think Benning starts doing his planning for that day? At my work we do planning up to 25 years, although very broad. The 5 year plan is very specific.....one year plans are almost concrete. I am sure Benning is talking about it now........the only twister to the whole thing is the "Mumps" LOL.....If teams totally get wiped out with this, it could really throw things into......who knows??? But seriously, I would be starting meetings......I think Benning knows where he is headed......had talks with the agents, knows what the players are asking, probably has a board with where everyone(Teams) will be at the TDL.....don't you think???? Cheers
AV.
If we do plummet and become sellers, I would expect Matthias, Richardson, and Dorsett to be available. Maybe Higgins, Burrows, and Hansen as well. But any trade for any player wouldn't be "scorched-earth"/take whatever's available type of move. I'd be completely fine re-signing anybody and keeping this group together for the short-term.
Nuxfanabroad
It's an interesting question, should this squad hit the slide. For this reason, the next 10~15 games become pretty significant. If buy low/sell high is the prevailing MO, JB shouldn't even be answering the phone, nowadays... Tangelos
Demko is our goalie of the future, so Eddie could very well be out the door if the value is there
DownUndaCanuck
Anyone with a NTC is pretty tricky to move, especially if we're still in a playoff spot come deadline time. However, if we're below 9th yet again I think guys like Higgins, Burrows, Hamhuis and Hansen would be far more willing to waive and move to a better team after they've seen how well Kesler and Garrison are doing on solid teams. They're both having career years on Cup contending teams and are having fun. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing us trade Sbisa away. Sure he came in with the big Kesler package but he's been pretty average so far and if we could get an upgrade on defence involving Sbisa I'd take it. He's a 5th defence man at best and we need to bolster our blue line for sure, but I don't want him playing 22 minutes a night ever, especially with Bieksa or we get another 5-1 pounding by most teams. Lack may well be on the block too considering how well Markstrom's playing in the AHL, Erickson deserves a shot at the NHL and Demko is well on his way to becoming the next Schneider, plus he's having a shocking season. Tom Sestito
Should have traded Hansen and Mattias when they were hot. Player value doesn't differ week to week. Teams around the league see them the same way they did - 3rd liners. Players who've trended down year to year, like Miller, Burrows, Bieksa, and even the Sedins (although the twins are definitely worth their salary. one player I think is going to start to trend down year to year is higgins. morrissex95
I think we make moves that don't deplete centre ice depth. Sell wingers Hansen, Burrows and Higgins at the deadline.
Hunter.S-Kerouac
Higgins has the highest value of moveable pieces. However Richardson is likely the odd man out.

-AJ-
I'd have a tough time saying bye to Higgins. He's grown on me over the past 5 or so years. Hard to believe he's been here for almost that long.
-AJ-
Demko is our goalie of the future, so Eddie could very well be out the door if the value is there Too quick to make that judgement yet, I'd say. I'd say Miller will be traded probably next year depending on how well we're doing. Lack will take the #1 role if he plays well enough and Markstrom or Eriksson will take the backup role. Demko might be great, but most goalies take a long time to develop properly.
Pimp C
A Demko-Markstrom goaltending duo could be filthy. Neither of them have proven jack in the NHL and one of them is still in college. But sure, lets jump the gun.
