(Dreger) Canucks and Bruins talking trade

"Sbisa will develop into a top 4 dman for us"

"Vey will become a 2C either this year or next year"

"Bonino makes those players around him better"

"Pedan will play for the big club within the next two years"

All statements made by one man, and while he hassle some excellent moves, I worry that he overevsluates a lot and I think he believes he knows things most others in his line of work do not.

Does he know more than the LA or Detroit staff? After all he traded Seguin because they refused to mentor a kid who needed too much "babysitting"

I'm not sure he said any of those things and how can you be sure he engineered the Seguin trade. That would be the canucks blaming Gilman for the Hodgson trade, you don't know if Benning orchestrated the trade or Chiarelli

I'm baffled as to why WD thinks vey has shown top 6 skill and Kass hasn't- has he watched any video from Kassian against Minnesota, Pittsburgh or buffalo last year?

Coaches play players they trust. Clearly Kass has not earned his trust yet. Sitting Vey shows Willie is wiling to give Kass a chance though. He needs to prove him right.

I'm still baffled as to why so many on cdc want to trade Kassian.

The Cody butt-hurt is strong with these ones.

He didn't. He said Sbisa has the potential to be top-4 in a couple years, that Vey has potential top-2 line skill, and not sure about Pedan but certain he never said he'd made the club in 2 years. Benning simply doesn't make adamant statements like that about players' future, knowing such things come back to bite hard.

I know the Bonino and Sbisa ones are true, but I haven't heard the Pedan and Vey ones.

If he actually said the Pedan one, facepalms all around. And I actually like Pedan.

Also, he definitely didn't orchestrate it, but he was definitely supportive in trading Seguin as shown in the bruins shows.

WD is just letting Kass know that there are no free rides here. Vey has been in the line up, and playing decent while Kass was injured. He needs to earn his spot in this line up.

I have to disagree. If Kassian needs to earn his spot (and he like everyone should have to) then certainly Vey needs to earn his based on his defensive play and lack of producing offensively for quite some time now. When he is not scoring points he literally adds nothing to our lineup.

he definitely said the first one, not sure about any of the others. Probably wont know if hes right for a couple years though

There was a tv series on Boston and there's a clip of Benning saying I'm paraphrasing Seguin needs to go. He doesn't fit our model. Or something along those lines. The series is on youtube think it's behind the Bs.

As much as I wouldn't of traded Seguin I respect him for doing it. Shows he's a man of action and demands character and professionalism. I'm just glad he didn't trade a guy from our team of seguins caliber. He probably will never have to now with that clip in history. Players should know better with him lol

3 games Kassian showed us his skill. Wow. Another factor (inconsistency) that will lead for a trade out of Van

I will defer to the knowledge of the people paid to make those decisions (Linden, Benning, Desjardins) over the Internet every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

You mean the same guy that traded an NHL top 4 defensemen for a 2nd but traded a 3rd for an ahl/echl defensemen?

Benning is a guy that overvalues players that he likes. The problem with this is the players that he likes.... aren't even good in the first place.

In the behind the scenes video, Benning's reason for why he thought they should trade Seguin was "we're not babysitting". :picard::picard::picard::picard::picard::picard::picard::picard::picard:

Great response. So anyone that questions Lowe, Mctavish, Eakins/Nelson is a moron because those guys are paid to do it?

Brilliant!

My bad, should have put unless you're a part of the oilers in there somewhere. Would have said Garth Snow as well but he's kind of redeemed himself this year.

Not sure which trades you are referring to but yes.

No Gm is going to win every trade he makes.

No Gm is going to lose every trade he makes.

My point is that most of these teams hire their staff based on resumes that have 20+ years involved in hockey. I trust them more than anyone here on the cdc.

There is nobody posting here who can run a team any better.

Unless we're talking about the Oilers. Obviously anyone could do a better job :P

Lol reading these comments are funny. "Kassian needs to be in our top 6".... why? There are much better young players in the NHL who have put more time in than kassian but are still put on the 3rd line so why should kassian get a free pass? Bottom line is he has to earn it and the guy has not earned it. Gotta put up more than 5 points in 19 games in order to get your shot at a top 6 role.

Wait, you are the Miller hater so it's a hater alert.

How's your favourite goalie doing since the break, anyways?

I'm still baffled as to why so many on cdc want to trade Kassian.

Might be the return will be higher than his value.

Might be the inconsistencies or lack of professionalism he is tainted with.

Might be that he has so much potential and refuses to or can't bring it consistently.

Might be that his personal issues are getting in the way of his bringing it.

Might only be negative perceptions ,coupled with a lackadaisical attitude, that upsets fans.
