Langdon Algur
While some of you may know this already I saw this on a friends Facebook and thought it was funny enough to share on here. Appartently in 2003 the Oilers had an accepted deal with the Ducks that would have sent Mike Comrie to the Ducks in exchange for Corey Perry and a 1st round pick (2004). In a very strange move Kevin Lowe asked Comrie to pony up the $2.5M of his own money to make up what he percieved as the lost value in the trade. Comrie refused to pay so instead the Oilers later traded him to Philly for Jeff Woywitka and draft picks that turned into Rob Schremp and Danny Syvret. With moves like this no wonder Kevin Lowe and the Oilers continue to be the joke of the NHL. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/oilers-comrie-must-pay-for-trade-1.399739 http://oilersnation.com/2011/4/7/hindsight-the-undone-corey-perry-deal

Warhippy
I didn't know that actually. Wow Lowe is terrible. The irony is that they got that pick anyway in Smid via the Pronger trade later on Seriously though....how terrible are the Oilers

TOMapleLaughs
This was on HF. Not sure if I believe it, but funny if true. We have our own share of funny 'almost' stories. Like how Gretzky was almost a Canuck. And how we almost won the cup.

TOMapleLaughs
The first link is a CBC article from 2003 with quotes from Lowe, what's not to believe?Context of what was said are likely off. "Reports suggest" and "supposedly" inserted strategically into the article. I don't disbelieve it entirely, but it wouldn't be the first time things have been twisted to make it more appealing to readers.
CanuckinEdm
Umm that's not bad your talking at the time a 23 year old 60 point center for a prospect and a first round pick. Would you trade Tyler Toffoli or Brock Nelson for Ho Sang and a first?
Mike Vanderhoek
Obviously it looks worse now as Comrie declined while Perry is now a top League goal scorer. In hindsight the Canucks could have drafted Jaromir Jagr lol.

YEGCanuck
Lowe likes to tell people he has 6 cup rings and knows something about winning. He also referred to hockey fans that do not buy season tickets for the Oilers as tier two fans. Edmonton's biggest loser.
Industrious1
Who is to say that even if the Oilers took Perry that he would have turned out the same in Edmonton's 'development' system?Let's face it...Oiltown has run some pretty good players into the ground. Master Mind
Looks like Perry dodged a bullet. He likely wouldn't have become the player he is today if he was stuck on the Oilers his whole career.

Bissurnette
Even then they wouldn't have amounted to much. Their offense isn't the biggest issue, it's the culture/management/philosophy that needs an overhaul. Perry wouldn't help with that
Phil_314
That's Perry bad. I'm sure the Anaheim GM back then still Getz a Laf out of this. Oh, Oilers.
StarGirl
LOL Not surprised he didn't become one in the end with who was managing the Oilers.

Miltt
Meh, if he ended up an Oiler he'd be battling Patrick White for a beer league roster spot. That team destroys all talent in its last 15 years.
