(Hindsight) Corey Perry was almost an Oiler

While some of you may know this already I saw this on a friends Facebook and thought it was funny enough to share on here. Appartently in 2003 the Oilers had an accepted deal with the Ducks that would have sent Mike Comrie to the Ducks in exchange for Corey Perry and a 1st round pick (2004). In a very strange move Kevin Lowe asked Comrie to pony up the $2.5M of his own money to make up what he percieved as the lost value in the trade. Comrie refused to pay so instead the Oilers later traded him to Philly for Jeff Woywitka and draft picks that turned into Rob Schremp and Danny Syvret.

With moves like this no wonder Kevin Lowe and the Oilers continue to be the joke of the NHL.

The first link is a CBC article from 2003 with quotes from Lowe, what's not to believe?

Context of what was said are likely off.

"Reports suggest" and "supposedly" inserted strategically into the article.

I don't disbelieve it entirely, but it wouldn't be the first time things have been twisted to make it more appealing to readers.

a player refused to do what he wanted.... tough to make that call ... typical management mistake my way or the highway!
