HerrDrFunk
I've seen many people on these boards complain that the crowd enthusiasm at Rogers is lacking to say the least. That being said, I have to wonder something after going to last night's game. Is it the crowd or is it the acoustics? I ask this because last night, the crowd was PUMPED! We cheered, we were loud and we even had spontaneous chants going. The thing is, when I watched the replays and highlights from the night, you could barely hear the crowd. So my questions are: Was I just caught up in the game and thought the crowd was better than it was? Or does the noise of the crowd just not come through properly? Edit: After a few responses, I want to rephrase the way I asked this question: is it the crowd or is it the audio equipment?
Brad Marchand
CBC's audio quality has always sucked.
Mathew Barzal
Preserve the excitement you had for last night's game and then watch your next game on a road trip at the Saddledome or Bell Centre. I don't doubt that a game between two Western Canadian teams riled up the suits a tad more than usual, but it's still nothing compared to the passion you find yourself engrossed in at a true hockey city. Mad fun.
Grapefruits
As someone who has seen far too many concerts to remember a number at Rogers, no they don't. Acoustics in Rogers are actually really good. CBC's audio quality has always sucked. ^This
Pears
CBC's audio quality has always sucked. This. The crowd in real life is so much louder compared to it on TV.
SamJamIam
To be fair to CBC (a little, because their equipment does suck), the Rog is also quite a tall building. Sound disperses upwards as a result which isn't an issue when you're in the crowd but when mics are trying to pick up the noise it sounds like each cheer is much more fleeting. Tom Sestito
CBC's audio quality has always sucked. TSN actually always sounded so much better when they did Nucks games Remember this beast Kesler game? sounded so great on TV.

VANcanucks92
Its weird the crowd sound used to translate through tv during the West coast express days. Building seemed soooo loud on tv, even on CBC. Imo CBC sound these days is worse then it used to be, its like they turned crowd noise down or something. Oliewud
Yeah definitely CBC...They seem to crank up the commentator volume and lower the crowd...I have no idea why...
Baggins
Yeah definitely CBC...They seem to crank up the commentator volume and lower the crowd...I have no idea why... Because the commentators are paid to do a job and the crowd isn't?

RUPERTKBD
Actually, having good acoustics would translate into a building that isn't loud. Loud buildings are generally ones where sound waves bounce freely back and forth, off hard, reflective surfaces, especially in buildings that are constructed without any irregularities. This is why walls and ceilings in concert halls are broken up and made of softer, more absorbent materials. If the Rog is known as a "quiet" building, then it's acoustics are going to be better than most.

Mad fun. The Saddledome? Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuulzzzzzz! Calgary crowds are super lame. Yes, probably a little noisier than the white collar Rog, but not even in the same galaxy of ballparks as the Bell Centre...
70seven
Acoustics arent a problem. Fans are just quietly and intently watching... Itd be nice to have a roaring crowd, but its just generally not the culture of the Vancouver hockey fan. I can get drunk and roar at a pub while half arsed paying attention and save the $120. But if Im going to dish out the cash, Im generally on the edge of my seat in deep thought and anticipation. Conversely if I go to a Whitecaps game, Im going for the atmosphere and good times rather than dissecting the play. If the prices were lower, youd attract some more of the fringe fans that are looking for atmosphere, thus increasing fan morale. When you skyrocket ticket prices in this town, you either get analytical fans like myself, business meetings, hot date, or an empty seat.
TheOgRook
I remember when the building was built, them talking about the design worked well for concerts. Having seen a bunch of concerts there anywhere from the floor, box, to at the side of the stage and I can say the acoustics are great for music
etsen3
It's true that CBC turns down the crowd sound, which really sucks. Also, I'm guessing you were in the upper bowl, which is much rowdier than the lower bowl.
apollo
I think the crowd sucks. Too many people trying to impress clients Too many people on dates that don't even care about hockey Too many people that don't care about hockey that received tickets for free Too many tyrants, I mean... security staff Too many people too stuck up to cheer. Going to a game has been getting worse and worse of an experience. I go for the product on the ice, not the horrible crowds. /rant
