ShakyWalton
This rumour/speculation from Montreal this morning..if its true and I was the Habs I would jump all over it... December 29, 2014 Greg Boysen (@GregBoysen) Danslescoulisses.com had a very interesting post this morning about both David Desharnais and Ryan O’Rielly of the Colorado Avalanche. The DLC talked about the situation between Desharnais and head coach Michael Therrien as the Habs forward has not been happy with the way he has been used of late. The article also mentioned that Desharnais did not request a trade, but he did question his future in Montreal while remaining a professional. The second half of the article mentions the rumors that the Colorado Avalanche are now ready to trade center Ryan O’Reilly for some defensive help. The Canadiens have a surplus of defensemen with eight on the roster in Montreal along with Jared Tinordi with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Would the Habs send David Desharnais and a young defenseman to Colorado for Ryan O’Reilly?

But part of me thinks Tinordi has a Hal Gill upside. We can do better.
TheRussianRocket.
Avs should trade O'Reilly asap. He's a selfish player and history has proved it. Signs an offer sheet to get most possible money and Avs matched. After that contract is done, he signs another max contract and gets enough years so he becomes a UFA at the end of it and can the big bucks wherever it may be. Good player but not a team player imo. He's always been in it for the money and I don't see why thag won't change in the near future.

But Tinordi is dirt cheap, and as good as Hamhuis is, he's on the decline. Maybe not as fast as Bieksa, but I believe we have already seen him at his peak. Man, this makes me sad. Hammer is one of my favorite players on the team. Anyway, I'd rather get Nathan Beaulieu anyways.

That itself kills his value doesn't it? Unless they can do 6 first year and 1 mill second year that averages to 3.
Warhippy
Can the Habs eat ROR's contract under the cap though? Would be interesting for sure to see what ROR can do in a Habs uniform. As much of a pest as Desharnais is, ROR bring a shade more to the table

As much of a pest as Desharnais is, ROR bring a shade more to the table I think you're confusing desharnais with gallagher. I wouldn't really characterize desharnais as a pest. As far as Cap goes I think Montreal could JUST make it work. I suspect some more salary would go back than just desharnais though. Bergevin likes to keep some cap space to leave his options open

TOMapleLaughs
To me ROR is redundant in Mtl, as they have Plekanec for an identical role. Not to mention Eller and to a lesser degree Manny. I guess more the merrier, but ROR's offense (14 goals?) isn't quite up to $6mil player/most expensive fwd on the team status. Definitely still like him over Desharnais, who seems to have Mtl wanting him out on a year-by-year basis. Maybe Mtl can swing a one-for-one deal, since it's a bit of a cap dump for Colorado. They never really wanted him at $6mil per.
Time Lord
O'Reilly and Desharnais have identical offensive numbers. Also I feel like Desharnais is one of those players who has more value to his team than he would in a trade.

Guest Dasein
ROR is going to be expensive to re-up. He's already not even close to worth what he's getting paid and he's going to get even more on his next contract. It is in COL's best interest to trade him ASAP - I thought they should have paid Stastny what he wanted last year and traded ROR. They'll be more than fine with MacKinnon and Duchene for years to come. Screw ROR and get a solid 3C and a blue chip defense prospect - whatever value you can get now.
