The Edmonton Oilers have acquired centre Derek Roy from the Nashville Predators in exchange for centre Mark Arcobello.

Roy, 31, had 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in 26 games for the Predators this season before being waived by the team on Sunday.

The Ottawa, Ontario native has accumulated 502 points (178 goals, 324 assists) in 692 games over 11 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Predators.

Arcobello, 26, has 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 36 games this season for the Oilers.

Over three seasons with Edmonton, Arcobello has posted 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 78 games.

EDM would make the trade instead of waivers to keep them away from 50 contracts.

EDM also coming up to 40 games, which would burn a year of Draisaitl's free-agency timetable.

No salary retention in this EDM/NASH trade

So Edmonton declines to claim Roy on waivers, holds Draisaitl out from the World Juniors, then trades for Roy and sends Draisaitl back to junior. They could have traded a minor contract earlier (or just made the same trade beforehand) and allowed Draisaitl to play for Germany, but instead they do whatever this is.

Well they were at 50 contracts with the Fraser pickup, so it was necessary if they wanted both Roy and Fraser.

MacT reminds me of Nonis, remember when Matt Pettinger was someone they had "coveted" for a long time? Bernier, Pyatt, etc. hoping to find a gem in the garbage, and too timid to make the big move required to get a big change.
Saviors off the waiver wire, lol.

Also, I guess you can only make one waiver claim at a time? Otherwise why not just claim Roy and keep Arcobello? They need all the help they can get. Arco isn't a bad player either..

Well having just claimed a player their priority level was low, assuming a team like WPG, ANH or CBJ would need to replace some players lost to injury.

Just suggests they have very little control, or idea, of what is going on... :picard:

Edmonton needs to clean house in the office!
