granpappy
they have an up and coming team with multi dimensional young talent, meaning there is not the melancholy of going to the rink knowing exactly what you will get (or won't get). that is, there is an abundance of young talent that is continuing to develop thus the interest level is high for the fan base with expectations of not only entertainment but the prospect of watching their team and players develop into a winning team for years to come. they have a team whereby when they pick up a role player, he is a role player and the expectations for him is as a role player rather than picking up a journeyman or borderline pro and placing him under the microscope of having to perform as if he was a top six talent. that said, the dynamics of the role player to further the teams' effectiveness is even interesting to watch. they have the antithesis to the edmonton oilers who basically suck. they have picked high in the draft for years and as noted above, in my opinion have a young and exciting franchise. They play in the east, in a non hockey market. The reason their players aren't under the microscope is because there is no fan base. When your highest forward is Bolland who's signed for 5 years at 5.5 and he's put up a whopping 3 assist and zero goals this year. He'd get eaten alive in a market like vancouver. The haven't just picked high for years. They've had a top 10 draft pick in every year of the franchise existence except for 6 years. 15/21 years they have had a top 10 pick. the majority of those 15 picks were in the top 5. (9 to be exact). Sure they are exciting to watch young team start to pick up speed and I hope they make playoffs this year. Like CBJ last years. Didn't we hear something similar for the oilers.... "I think it's safe to say that half the general managers in the National Hockey League would trade their rosters for our roster right now," Lowe said. Didn't we hear something similar for the oilers.... as i said. our entire roster. the excitement we have of watching our future = horvat, lack . . . beyond that, a couple key players and a few effective role players. after that we have the predictability of our aging veteran lineup. for a change, we do have a couple prospects in the system now as the result of just 2 yrs of higher picks (including horvat via schnieds). if we could manage a couple more yrs of drafting high, including a top 10 this yr then . . . we are better off, in my opinion, to trade some vets / draft high rather than a quick bow out in round 1 or possibly
tyhee
entire canuck roster for entire panther roster. Tallon: Lu, I just want you to know how pleased we in Florida have been with you, in the locker room and on the ice, and assure you that you'll remain a Panther until your contract expires in ... what is it again, 2050? Lu: Thanks, Dale, my family really loves it here in Florida. Tallon: Well, Lu, the thing is ... the team is changing its name. It will now be known as the Vancouver Panthers. I've got a request here to get you to call Tony Gallagher so he can print your thoughts. After Lu called Gallagher and answered "x!*#@%*()^&?" to Gallagher's first and only question, Gallagher's next column entitled "Are the Panthers choosing age over ability?" begins: The new Vancouver NHL roster includes a 35 year old goalie (well over the average age of NHL goaltenders) and a younger goalie, still in his prime years, who hasn't been getting prime playing time despite his 2.27 GAA compared with the starter's higher GAA of 2.30 (as of New Year's Eve.) Strombone1, on being asked to comment, did not deny his concern about his playing status with the Panthers nor comment on rumours that he's asked to be traded to the Florida Canucks." _______ Happy New Year, everyone.
